My lad went a few weeks back, his words, zssawrite, high praise indeed i think you'll agree ben. Been to that other all you can eat place in town a few times- the kids like it, that was ok, then it got shut for a **** scores on the doors. Chinese is chinese wherever i go really. Not that arsed about it. I'm sure they just make it up in cauldrons and ship it to all the different restaurants like meals on wheels. What was so bad about Mr Chu's Carmine? You werent behind Prezza in the buffet queue where you? That would piss a man off. Some ****er is going to go, well i went to China and.....
We went to The Wilson on the Marina the other day. It's a pretty small Cafe but does some great food at reasonable prices . Decent steaks too. Totally enjoyed my visit, although they were a bit heavy with the strawberries in the drinks sorta thing. Better for small social gatherings I reckon.
I went less than a year ago and it was exactly the same, I had a prawn cocktail and a steak in pepper sauce, but we had to leave before I had chance for a bit of Black Forest action.
only heard of a cpl on the list , and not been in any of them , what type of restaurants are they ? they type that isnt meant to full you up but empty your wallet ? Or are these realistly priced places for a night out ?? We tend to goto the same places for grub in Hull - Indian or something for the family at Frankie & Bennies lol
Wing's is pretty decent every time I've been, though obviously it's getting a lot of press lately from getting a zero in food hygiene (hope I don't die...). Chinese First in St. Stephens is pretty decent. £4.50 for an all you can eat buffet, but the pudding's let it down; basic vanilla ice cream (which you have to scoop yourself!) and fruit... Miss Buffet near Bond Street/Saville Row is really good too. Never been to Mr. Chu's.
We went to a buffet in Crewe a few years back, Chinese with a few other bits thrown in. My youngest was devouring the desserts & overindulging with the chocolate fountain as they do. "Tried it all but don't like these ones Dad" Not surprised son, that's sushi & they don't belong in a chocolate fountain. We never said owt, paid the bill & never been back.
To be honest the grub wasn't bad at all, it was the service. I think the original Mr Chu has handed over to his son and he doesn't know his arse from his elbow. He's a big fat whack who just lollops around doing f**k all. The rest of the staff are no better. I don't like rushing but a hour and a half to get our starters and then another hour for our main. In fact the food was average at best, that coupled with such poor service means Carmine will never return. Ever. Not whilst fatso is running the gaff.
Yes, 3 times up to now and for the money I can't complain and no we didn't see any of the the alleged maggots or other stuff. Its just a bigger version of May Sum that was, now Miss Buffet I believe. Quite a large eating area that always seems pretty full and with people waiting for tables. I've read the headlines like I have of other establishments over the years and one in London not so long back: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...tar-restaurant-finding-flies-E-coli-risk.html
I don't live in Hull but I went to Millhouse at Skidby a few years ago and I thought it was pretty good. When it was my wife's 40th anniversary we were doing a rush job for a client and when the chairman knew we were going to Bibbendum www.bibendum.co.uk he said we could put it on expenses. It cost £400 for the two of us and that was 15 years ago. That would be about £600 now. I usually spend a 10th of that! I like the fish shop on the walk from station to the KC but I usually buy a lot and there's no tables so I have to put the food on top of the rubbish bins.
I have. Cleanliness: Didn't seem bad at all, and I wasn't ill afterwards. Decor/Interior: A bit of a step-up from your average 'all you can eat buffet' places. Huge inside. Food: It isn't just a Chinese buffet, it has Indian, Mexican and Italian too, as well as sushi, a good selection of desserts and freshly-made pancakes. The main reason for going is selection; soo much to choose from, so good if you have a large group as there is something for everyone. The quality of the food though is on par with most buffet-style restaurants, possibly slightly above the quality of other buffet restaurants, as the pizza was really good. Enjoyed being able to put marshmallows and haribo on a skewer and stick it under a chocolate fountain too, haha.
Have you never been to Wokkas? Lunch menu is brilliant - 2 courses and a drink for £6.50, and it is actually really good quality for the price you pay.
Went the other week didn't think it was all that great compared to pasco's in cott and nearly twice as much
