Not having it. I cant call the ****s on telly every week then have one of our own do it. Telly may prove me wrong form some odd angle but to me he shamelessly threw himself to the ground. The WBA fans gave you a cracking round of applause, now hatred. Sour taste in the mouth as valuable as the points were. Seemed to instigate a spate of every ****er throwing himself to the ground. Meyler did get clipped in the box but tried to stay on his feet before throwing himself to the floor as an afterthought. Then went to the corner flag and threw himself over for a free kick.
I need to see the Long one properly in slow motion, as I'm still not sure what contact there was (if any) and whether it was with his own leg or the defender's. But he did get straight up and carry on - it's not as if he appealed for the penalty (like Boyd did).
shane long ‏@Shanelong009 2h I got clipped, no I didnt dive, yeah it was a soft and thats why i didnt claim for it. Anyway a big 3points for us. You can't blame Long when he even thought it wasn't a pen.
I cant see the clip macca. As me and the lad recollect it, the ref didnt give it but the lino flagged and then he gave it?
Looked a stonewaller to me (I thought he got in-front of the defender and then the defender took his leg without touching the ball), but then I also thought they should have had one at 2-0.
Definitely, it’d have been better if the ref hadn’t have given it and we’d have got beat. At least then, we (and Shane Long) would have got more respect from WBA fans. Dunno, but maybe we'd have got another heart warming round of applause? What we need, as a club, is not points, but we simply need kudos from nomarks like WBA, Adrian Chiles and Lawro.
I have no idea if it was a penalty or not but players will dive because they get away with it , they often get penalties and are hardly ever booked
I really don't think it was a dive. He tripped. For most of the first half he seemed really upset and apologetic about it. When walking back to the changing rooms at HT he was still explaining/apologising to WBA players.
Looked like a clear penalty to me, and Sagbo's even more so. Respect to Shane for not making a meal of it and trying to play on but the ref had it exactly right. Makes up for some of the even more blatant ones that have not been called, including Boyd's flagrant push in the back last week.
Couldn't make the game today but for the Sagbo incident both commentators said his was a "stonewall penalty".
Even after watching that video a few times it's very difficult to tell if: a) he was fouled, b) he tripped, c) he dived Anyway Sagbo had one of the most blatant pens I've seen in ages not given at the end
CHazz does it not matter to you that he got straight back up and carried on playing the ball? The ref bottled it a little, his angle was terrible but as far as I'm aware you stay down with your arms flailing if you're trying to win a pen. A cheat doesn't get back up.
It looked like Long stumbled and fell while trying to get between the defender and the ball and because it was West Brom he quickly got up so it didn't seem like he dived. He didn't claim a penalty, so I can't see how he cheated.
Some Baggies fans waited at the players entrance and gave Long a load of abuse in front of his family, left his kids in tears. Scummy bastards.
