On the A bus yesterday and people were chatting about the EE going and the Atyeo. It's clear a lot of fans have not hot a ****ing clue what is going on at City.
Oh have I won the contract already? I only put my offer in last week. One that hopefully other fans in future come to and say that's a tidy ground, not in ten years time people will mock it. Like I said can't appease everyone
As you said Chief " Me I'm more concerned with building a club that will at least build a future for my kids and grandkids and theirs", thought you had the inside sketch on everything. Appeasement ... Demands? Yeah fans had some. ONE ... Work with fans and it won't be ****e. BCFC the sinners couldn't do ONE. Maybe it all really meant something ONCE , once there were special times when there was an us not them but now building a club it isn't. The tide went in on what was a club some time ago.
Old saying " He who pays the piper, calls the tune" In my sixty five years as a City supporter, I can never remember any meaningful consultation by the board with fans about construction of stands, or anything related to seating or stadium alterations. The Williams Stand design was never seen until it had been built. Harry Dolman built what he wanted - two indoor bowling arenas with seating on top. The Atyeo design was not discussed before or during construction and the closure of the East (Covered) End to home fans was announced as a fait accomplished when the Atyeo was ready for use. So stop moaning about the current rebuild. The Club have had more contact with supporters in the last two years about designs and facilities than at any time within living memory. There has never been an "US not Them" scenario; the Board put in most of the cash so they get the majority of say in decisions. I don't like it any more than anyone else but that's life. The reality is that each of the 12,000 City fans at last Saturdays match with Swindon will want something different to the other 11,999! Even if the Board spoke to every City fan in the world, the design and facilities will not be 100% acceptable to every one. We are finally going to get a modern stadium to replace one which is one of the worst in the country. Pillars everywhere blocking views, lack of toilets and refreshment facilities, poor access and exits etc. And unlike all previous building work, the cost will not be financed at the expense of team building as happened with the Dolman and Atyeo stands. So at least SC will have some funds to continue the team building needed to push on with the revival on the pitch.
Post 82 the club was owned by its supporters and had AGM.s. Not now. To join the club now and have a significant shareholding you have to be a billionaire. It is a club of one. We are finally going to get a modern stadium to replace one which is one of the worst in the country ... I have been to stadiums repeatedly this season which are worse. Nobody has said no to redeveloping Ashton Gate. What fans asked the" club" to do was build a future wityh fans. Great clubs do this. The Club have had more contact with supporters in the last two years about designs and facilities than at any time within living memory ... BCFC have totally failed to do as they claimed they would. That can be called lying. There was no contact with fans for nearly half a year apart from a select group. Money was wasted putting right a design fans universally dsiliked because the "club2 had not consulted them. The rail seats for "us" in the Wedklock has a degree of farce about it. It took eight months for Martin Griffith/Bristol Sport to realise it was in a position which would mean it would be under used.
You have just confirmed, Cliftonville, what I said: That there will never be a consensus between supporters so unless the Club does nothing, those on the board must make the decisions on our behalf! And while, in the years following 1982 while Des Williams was chairman, there was more openness via the AGM, as soon as he handed over to someone else, the Board went back to its normal way of operating. Fricker was inept and useless, Davidson promised and failed to deliver and we all know the recent history. What matters on the pitch is the most important, but as I keep repeating, a reasonably comfortable seat, unrestricted view of the pitch, easy access in and out of the stands, plenty of toilets and refreshment bars is all most of us want from our "match day experience". If the action on the field is entertaining, exciting and WINNING, we'll make enough noise to be heard in the City Centre. If it continues like it has for the past four years, they could relocate Bedminster Crematorium to the stadium to provide more interesting Saturday afternoons!
I am so sorry I will have to hang my head for you. Even if I snorted all of Bristol downers, uppers, squeakers and gurners I couldnât get out of it enough to say Ashton Gate is worse than Brentford and Carlisle and Crawley and Crewe and Colchester and Gillingham ⦠BIG guff in your post. This consultation ⦠Some pics appeared in June in the Williams. The architect got told in no uncertain terms âthat behind the goal is commodeâ. No sight has been made of the Ccommode design for eight months. The board are employees ⦠Doug H takes a salary. The Atyeo design was in the Williams and Supporters club. Bugger all could be done with the lack of space and money also came from a football improvement grant. Taking a breathee .. One , two, three go redevelopment is exempt under FFP. No drain on team finances ... The FC won't own the ground. Harry D nice man. Built the Dolman. Also gave the Supporters club a lease for ever to have premises in the Ashton Gaff. Donât ask what has happened to that SC gaff lease mind now ... I have one of those 82 share certificates ⦠I felt I was part of the club, an US. That club was owned by its fans. .. That certificate might as well be crapper paper now
Thank lads, I meant to say clubs of a similar size or potential. Such as Wolves, Leicester, Forest, Southampton, Stoke etc etc. Compared with the average Championship stadium, Ashton Gate is poor.
CA you do realise that at the consultation open day the Wedlock design revealed is not the actual design? Over a year after the consultation started fans have still not seen this Wedlock design. Fans will finally see it after it has planning permission is granted and s73 amendments are met.
Your opening line is factually incorrect. A consensus was reached in supporters trust surveys for Ashton Vale. These surveys were evidence based and identfied themes stands to stand using demographics. Those surveys are relevent for a particular stand at Ashton Gate. Right across the board an overwhelming majority supported the concept of a traditional style stand. The figures stand to stand and stakeholder group to group were 60 - 80%. What matters on the pitch is the most important. I should be watching Villa or Manchester Utd, but as I am not a results fan what happens on the pitch is only part of football. If the action on the field is entertaining, exciting and WINNING, we'll make enough noise to be heard in the City Centre. You would change that view with a visit to Cardiff. Its know as the souless bowel effect and can be experineced all over the UK.
The Bastards .. Me and four Mates walked from Wurzel TM to the ground on a hot night to see that load of commode. It was so hot we had to stop in the Little Grosvenor, Avon Packet and Coopers Arms on the way as dehydration kills.
