I had a cracking night up there mate..There was about 5,000 Sunderland fans up there and the banter was all friendly and good humoured..Then all of a sudden a fan in the Rangers section above us started to wave a mag scarf which set the Sunderland fans off...To their credit this fan with the mag scarf lasted about 10 seconds before he was dragged away unceremoniously by the Rangers fans next to him, to the great cheers and applause from our section..

Reg, were you at Roker for Benno's testimonial?
I was & I saw nowt but good natured banter between us & a lot of pissed up Rangers fans.
Then I got up the next day & I'm reading about all these folk who have been slashed.

Yes..I got into a bit bother myself that night outside of The Wheatsheaf with an arsehole who was trying to take the shirt off my back for a souvenir. He got two warnings to pack it in, but I didn't give him a third. After I left him sliding down the wall, a group of Rangers fans behind me shook my hand and said they wouldn't have been so patient with him. I took that group round the Howard Arms with me, and I had a cracking couple of hours with them..

The state this country is in, you'll get called a racist, a bigot and an EDL supporter for showing any kind of pride in being English/British. Yet so many people throw green on every year to celebrate a nation where a significant proportion of the population absolutely despise us.

    Baffling.

It's a sad indication of today's society mate. Some pissed-up Irish students in a pub near me were chanting IRA songs last night, management did nothing to stop them. If they hate the English that much, the airport's just down the road.
