Our ,now gone,super-hero--Didier Drogba, returns to the Bridge tomorrow night, playing for the oppo's. For me it will seem strange watching him perform against us! In the mind of all you true blues what kind of reception should we be planning for him?
Win, lose or draw, should be an absolute heroes welcome and standing ovation for a true Chelsea great. This guy has to be a top 5 Chelsea legend for what he did, surely.
All I hope is that we don't see any rolling around from Drogs. If he scores against us then so be it.
My ideal situation would be that we are 3 or 4 nil up and Drogs gets a consolation goal and the entire stadium claps.
Positive he will get the heros' welcome he deserves. Along with Zola, the 2 best players for Chelsea in the modern era, and that's saying something. Also a gentleman and a humanitarian who looks after his countries poor. Is Rooney listening ???
Top 5, top 2, blah blah. If you take into account his critical contributions both on the pitch in cup finals, and off it with his humanitarian efforts in war torn Ivory Coast, Zola, Lampard, Osgood simply don't stand comparison. Drogba is the greatest Chelsea player. Period. The guy has made the Time 100 ffs.
A perfect evening! A comfortable win and a brilliant welcome back to the Bridge for Drogs! Chelsea legend!
Don't think you can dismiss Lampard. He has won just as much, also scored some crucial goals, top scorer ever. Gentleman off the field and no issues on it (Drogba has moments of ill discipline and a reputation for diving). For me Lampard is Chelsea legend number 1 and then Drogba and Terry follow. I'm not old enough to have seen the greats from 70's backwards but in my eyes, you can't compare them to players who have won as much as the modern sides.
Lampard, Drogba and Zola are the best I've seen. Osgood a little before my time and when I was a kid we were pretty dire.
