How is your club dead exactly? The club stays very much the same with only a few words changing? The playing staff are the same, the management are the same, the stadium, the training facilities, the kit, the half time announcer, the goal posts. Everything that you associate with Hull City stays the same, except the name. I don't understand how that kills the passion inside some people.
Amen. Ridiculous overreaction by some of the zimmers on here. Even though it's not preferable and wanted, to claim your club is dead because of a name change is to basically completely overlook and disrespect its fans and employees, which in my opinion is the TRUE essence of the club. The community around the club is what makes this club. Ironically, by no longer attending you would be killing the club.
I'd be sad but I wouldn't stop supporting the team. I'd still go when I get the chance to be in the UK and watch games on the TV. Personally I think that if the name change goes ahead the next owner (however long off that may be) will just change the name back to win the fans over early on. It's just a shame that there's a chance we'll have the lamest name in football for a while...
Like many clubs Hull City have alot of plastic fans as well as the sentimental fans. I've been going longer than most on here for a start. We have had far more dark days than good days down the 109 years and the name means nothing when all is said and done. Dont get me wrong, I would prefer to stay as Hull City (the AFC means nothing ) but what is in a name eh ? The history of the club mainly ranges from bad to simply disgraceful. In fact Hull City AFC were buried by some supporters back in 1982. I was in the procession when a group carried a Hull City AFC coffin to our old Boothferry Park ground. So it died back then in a way. The clubs success this season is beyond words and the owners have the right (IMO) to call it what they want. However, the pressure will increase if they dont deliver the investment they say they can do if the FA allow the name change. Fan power can only go so far in this day and age. The owner has the right to do what he thinks fit. So do the fans. Like any business(which is what clubs are) or shop the customer has the right to stay away if they dont like what is going on. When push comes to shove i dont see many staying away whatever the name. For the record of this thread i shall still support the club whatever it is called. We shall always be called Hull City with Tigers as our nickname. end of imo.
No it is not. What is pathetic is trying to stop a man from doing what he thinks is best. In some respects i hope Allam wins now so that we can see just how many will spit there dummies out and stay away.
I've already walked away from home games and any merchandise. I won't do anything that supports that man.
We've had all this on countless threads. To those who say everything else will be the same is simply not true, everything has changed and will change. Players, managers, owners, fans, kits....... The name is the one item that has not changed and is the symbol of the teams I've followed for nearly 50 years. If that name is no more then I have no team to follow. I don't expect most people to understand my stance, but everyone will have a threshold. Mine has just about been reached.
A iv said before I am genuinely sad we might lose some good fans over this That hurts more then the name change. I really hope everyone will find away to still go. Life's short.......I hope everyone will still go..
Everything you associate with Hull City changes, the stadium, the training facilities, the kit, the half time announcer, the goal posts, the players, the owners, the managers, the mascots, the sponsors, etc etc. So you don't understand that's fine. I'm not asking you to understand. If enough people understand and want to form AFC Hull City our passion will still be alive. A football isn't a brand nor just a business.
That's fantasy Island. Why do you think Allam hasn't had a vote or sorted passes? Numbers won't drop much initially, but the faces will change as some will definitely stop going and they'll be replaced by Premier League rather than City fans. Any drop in position, will see a big drop in atmosphere and then numbers. Allam doesn't have enough money or respect to ever own the name. In our greatest ever season, his mismanagement is the biggest news item and his legacy.
You could do that now, and play in some sunday league. Football IS about brands, and business, its the small time thinking you're displaying that keeps clubs like us feeding off the scraps from the clubs who recognise that. Sure, its about other elements too such as passion, loyalty, emotional ties and so on, but ultimately if you don't have the income you won't achieve anything. Reducing the argument to a purely emotional one is just naive.
If Allam gets his wish granted by the FA and able to change the name to Hull Tigers than sadly that will be the end for me. The club would no longer represent the City and it's people which traditionally football clubs have always done. That is certainly why I became obsessed with City over 30 years ago. If it's about winning I would have supported Liverpool back then. The club would become Allam plc ltd company, would have no soul and in fact would be the opposite of what it was back in the early eighties. I'm sure nationally, many football traditionalists would look at Hull Tigers and Cardiff as examples of where football has gone so wrong! I assume I would be in a minority of fans that would walk away, however, I do know others that will also walk away. They are also long standing fans.
Don't know why what I posted is fantasy island DMD I honestly do find it sad some fans would stay away. Course I know its there choice.. Not having a go at anyone . far from it. I don't want obi to sod off....or anyone else :-( Anyway... Have a good day everyone.
Football in general is about brands, which is why people from Hull support Liverpool, Manchester United and Leeds United without having any connection with those clubs. FC United of Manchester walked away from the "greatest" European football club of the past 20 years and are thriving. They have raised over £8 million to build their own stadium. They have shown what is possible and what can be achieved in Hull if the FA agree the name change. We are coming to the end. We all knew it was coming. You pays your money and you take your choice. If the FA say Yes then I will be looking to see if getting AFC Hull City off the ground is feasible. Not just emotion, not just passion, but how do we raise the money to put the idea into practice.
