On the OS http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20140314-johnnie-jackson-1421312.aspx Good news I say. Though the cynic in me does wonder a little about the timing of this move.
Been a strange week so I'm a bit cynical too. Not sure about a 2 year deal though, barely has the legs to last 90 minutes now and he's only 31.
That's good, but we do need Hamer, Morrison and Poyet to all sign new contracts. I think they're the only ones out at the end of the year.
Signed for three years http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18769649 You've also got... Hughes, Dervite, Wood as well as Evina, Green and Pritchard
Errrm. Yeah, as a player who bleeds Charlton, great. But there have been a lot of comments lately that he can't last ninety minutes, so....two years? What would I have given to see that headline with Diego Poyet's name!!
I wonder if he may be better used as an impact sub, which he did to great effect at Ipswich on New Year's Day. I agree that he struggles to last the full game, and it's only going to get worse as he gets older. This is why I'm tad cynical - perhaps Roland sees this as a high-profile sop to the Charlton fans angry about the past week.
Roland found a pen . Let's see whether the MLS beckons for one if our players or if we've done enough to convince him to sign...
I am delighted he has signed, we need passion in the club and in my opinion no player in recent years has shown that more than Jackson. If we are too be in League 1 next season Jackson will be perfect, I agree he cannot play a full 90 week in week out, but sometimes players need to bring other skills to the team. Leadership, set piece delivery, passion, calming influence etc. Plus he is also the only one in the squad who I wouldn't be surprised if he scored, he scores vital goals (Ipswich and QPR) and that is what we need at the moment.
I am pleased for Jackson that he has secured his future, but it looks a bit of a publicity stunt as far as the club is concerned. One of the excuses given for the ridiculous transfer of Kermorgant was that RD wanted to make a fresh start with young players. Amazing we have money available for Jackson, whose career is on borrowed time, but not for Kermorgant (or Michael Smith for that matter). Of course, if there are lots of provisos written into his contract regarding fitness and availability, that would be a different matter. We have 1,350 more minutes of League football to play this season. If Jackson plays for more than half of them I will be very surprised, and if he his out, who comes in? Pritchard? Daniel? I note that Andreas Robinson who was on trial for our u21s did not feature in the last two games, so I guess that has fallen through.
Could be because clubs were actually interested in signing him and we got a transfer fee for him, but yeah I agree Kermorgant showed passion and I am near certain that no fan would have sold him
I would be amazed if we got as much as half million for him. More like quarter million at best. Peanuts compared with the drop in value of the club and its assets if we get relegated and the cost of trying to replace players who will surely leave on Bosmans. Not to mention some good players on contract who will be agitating to get away because they know they are well up to Championship standard. They may be on contract, but it is very obvious these days that clubs cannot hold on to unhappy players indefinitely and fail to to receive their true value if players are sulking and not pulling their weight. Which is why we should have sold Stephens at the right time. We threw away a million there. More than enough to have enabled us to hang on to Kermorgant, who did not want to leave.
Kermorgant fee was 400000, he was belatedly offered a contract by Charlton but it was nothing like the contract offered by Bournemouth, so he left for more money. I think it is about time we put the Kermorgant days behind us. I didn't want him to go but he has gone. This club has a record through the years of selling our best players and this was just another case.
Good news on JJ. He deserves it for his efforts on the field, and also sets a good example in the dressing room.
Why would a regime as money conscious as ours pay out 2 years wages to Jacko if they thought he wasn't good enough?
To be honest, I couldn't care less about the reasons behind JJ's contract. We have him at the club for the next two years, and whatever role he plays, be it bit-part player, impact sub, regular starter, or club captain and ambassador, his presence ensures a certain degree of continuity between club and fans. And after the match on Tuesday he looked upbeat and totally behind the new manager. Who knows, he may even join the coaching set-up at some point down the line. It's great news.
