"Can we opt out of Europa next season?" Yes (although the total number of games are useful for the squad) . The PL UEFA ranking points value is about the same as whar Spurs will lose via the 5 yr rolling window. Our points total will remain the same as what it finishes at this season end, without having to play a single game. "Assuming of course we're even good enough to finish fifth this season." With the Citeh win in the League Cup, it looks like 7th will be qualifying.
Utterly dreadful, tonight! We played like a team with no structure, no plan, no belief, no leadership. it wasn't quite as humiliating as some of the recent displays we've seen from Arsenal in Europe, but that came close. I couldn't get angry, because I've come to accept that, under Sherwoodie, this is how it's going to be - scraping wins against dross teams and getting destroyed and humiliated by any half-decent team. Did I expect us to win the Europey? No. Did I expect us to be so utterly clueless? No. I accept that we are going to get trounced by Arsenal at the weekend; I only hope that our players can, at the very least, play for us fans, even if they've given up playing for their clueless manager.
"At Swindon." Well we did get that quote from the Swindon owner about how great Timmy is, so don't be too surprised by that one. But with a million quid payoff, and them not getting promoted, future loans might be a bit of an issue.
"City trying to crap on us as hard as they can this season" How much do Spurs actually make from the Europa ?? At least with the CL we know you can earn 40m odd Euros just for QF mediocrity.
Benfica made the game look extremely simple tonight. Defend in numbers, get the ball forward quickly and hit on the break. Simple and effective. Whereas we continue to do what we have all season, pass the ball slowly around the back four and put each other under pressure (and not move for the ball). Sherwood doesn't look like he has a plan A let alone B.
More sensible selection that gets the best out of him. He was the third best player in a tournament where his side battered Spain. He's gone from that to looking like he's got no idea what he's supposed to be doing.
"He's gone from that to looking like he's got no idea what he's supposed to be doing" Hmm....I wonder why that is??...
Benfica are a better team then us, they where always favourites and likely to be in the CL next year. Still we gifted them two goals so the positive is that in terms of squad talent we can match teams like Benfica once we find a manager who can organise the team. Unfortunately for Sherwood it's highly unlikely now it will be him but if the players can cut out the stupid errors then we wouldn't be embarrassing ourselves as that's two games on the spin where we have gifted the opposition the game. Anyway, for every mess there is a manager to fix the mess. Santini is apparently still out of work!
