So we havent spent any of the carrol money, yet we have 3 class players and we have shifted off somebody who stood in the way of progress...

I dont think any English club has been as good as us in the transfer market so far, this carr bloke knows what hes doing.

I know people will say "ashley just cares about profit he doesnt care about us thats why hes not spending money" but i dont think we should be so negative...at the end of the day we have signed up 3 good players who will only get better.

I think we just need another striker for now and we have done well, thats making the assumption nobody important leaves the club.

Its just great how we have bounced back so quickly, a complete change in fortunes, we have a far better team than when we went down and on lower wages, things are looking up for us and other teams around our level are suddenly look inferior in every way, the evertons and villas and sunderlands of this world.

Guess what? WE STILL HAVE MILLIONS TO SPEND!!!!

We've spent money on wages, signing on fees, agent fees. So yes we have spent some of the money

A lot of the money will go on the wages these new lads will bring in, but with the older players leaving I can see that not being to high. We'll still have about..£29 million to spend? And we're probably going in for Erdinq for £8 million and N'Zogbia for £12 million (apparently) so we'll have just the right amount of money to spend when the transfer window opens in janurary. Still, looking good and Pardew and the gang are doing brilliantly! <ok>

We will make another profit this transfer window. Guaranteed. And was that another dig at Nolan? Standing in the way of progress? I think Kevin Nolan is the reason we are where we are, he has been Mr. Progress for the last 2 seasons. It's your opinion, but I can't fathom anyone having a go at Nolan, sorry <ok>

I dont think we will buy n'zogbia, just a hunch i think thats all talk.

Why do we even need charlie boy? unless we shift off routledge the wings are a bit overcrowded already, guti, ferguson, ben arfa can play there if needed, gosling can play out wide, ryan taylor as backup, barton of course has shown hes good out wide, even guthrie can play there...

I dont see the point getting him for anything less than 10 mil, i think we should focus the resources on a striker that will do the business.

EDIT: haha how could i forget Marveux? hes a winger too, we have many options no need for charlie unless we sell first.

I don't think it's a dig at Nolan, just accepting that he probably wouldn't get into the first team in terms of ability (which is when he said he's rather leave than benchwarm), but we'd probably still feel the need to play him.

Its still very early, but considering (if all goes well) we'll have Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Marveaux and Ba all vying for a first team place - its exciting times at Newcastle!

They are signs and reasons for excitment but another blow is surely just around the corner when Ashley and Llambias are running the shots.
I'm optimistic but wary of how the rest of this window will pan out.

At the moment, Ba is a guaranteed starter. Tiote and Ben Arfa are must starts, as is Cabaye by the looks of it. Good luck Pardew keeping the rest of them happy.

Think it will be a lot less easy to predict our starting 11 next year as it was last.

^^ That's a good thing in my eyes

you need depth in this division if you are to be successful.

Having said that you also need to field the best possible team you have consistantly in order to get consistant positive results.

Nolan has done a good job and served his purpose, but we can all see that apart from his goals he diddnt offer much in terms of team performance apart from morale, however morale is not magically going to make a wayward pass tractor beam to your feet.

Nolan could probs do another effective season but hes on the decline physically and he very sluggish towards the latter stages of games, it makes sense to cash in if hes being unrerasonable with his contract demands.

We are now a club that looks beyond the nolans and towards players that can offer more and i find that refreshing and positive, im proud of kevin for what he has done the last 2 years but i just think its good business.

I think the club has been pretty faultless in its decisions recently and i never thought i would say that.

i think we will reach the tipping point soon in terms of player numbers, we seriously need to get rid of some people, cant we just buy out the contracts of shola, perch, smith and mcloven etc etc and get rid now?

So you say, but we didn't win a single (no, not 1 single) game without him last season!

Disagree with getting rid of Nolan, but would he have been a regular starter this season? Also agree with the OP that is good that we are signing players and still have a lot of the Carroll money to spend.

Im not surprised with a rusty danny guthrie comming in to replace him.

Since carroll left nolan only scored 2 goals so he even declined in his performances over the course of the season not just within the course of games.

I dont see why you are arguing with me? i think it makes sense, what would you have done? given him the 5 year contract??

Im glad your not in charge.

I diddnt have a clue so i went on the old google to find out...i almost fell out of my seat

Thats a rather bizarre family right there, its weird how often multiple people from a family will be famous or at least have some notoriety, often completely unrelated as is the case here.

Here man I'm hardy arguing with you. What are you getting so defensive for?

I think the Nolan sale was inevitable, business wise it makes sense, but regardless of how much financial sense it makes, he will be a massive loss. A football club can't be simply run on numbers, BUT, if thats all we want to use, then lets not forget he's the highest scoring English midfielder AND outscored Drogba, Torres, Rooney, Gyan, Nasri and N'Zogbia.

Yes you can say his goals dried up after Carroll left, OR you could say we started playing with 2 up front meaning he had to play in a far more negative, though equally as important role.

With Ben Arfa coming back and Nolan still on big wages, he would be a very expensive benchwarmer, but its in no way as black and white or as simple as you're implying...Will we miss Nolan? Undoubtedly in my opinion!
