Let's suppose in 2-3 years time... the Brendan project is nearing its end, and Brendan & FSG have done enough to make the club elite and attractive to Guardiola - himself at the end of his Bayern experience.

Would you love to have a manager like him take over the reins at LFC?

Despite his genius, I have mixed feelings, and ultimately would decline. Why?

Firstly, I believe that throughout history LFC has forged a certain direct style of football, departures from which we fans are more sensitive to than we realise. (e.g. I strongly believe we would have been more patient with Hodgson if his tactics weren't so tired and insipid)

Secondly, I am sure that Guardiola has a hard proud head and a finely defined vision, which would always end up in tiki-taka death by football to an almost maniacal degree (where Rodgers was never comfortable in beggining to push us to even in his early days here.)

Thirdly, I can't help but find Guardiola's brand of football long-winded, vexatious, pesky and sometimes dastardly. Perhaps this is because I'm already in love with a more direct, modern English, attacking brand of football, and especially with our current Liverpool's magnanimous and exciting version of it.

In summary, I think there is a genuine clash of styles between the LFC and Guardiola's styles. Being that LFC's history and philosophy should tower over a singular man's tactical vision, and being that Guardiola's too full of himself (and perhaps rightly so) to change his philosophy - I would decline.

no, I'd like BR to stick around for the next 30 years if we keep on with the same philosophy. Stability is best, don't fix what isn't broken etc

Got to defend Guardiola here, have you seen bayern of late? They can mix it up, they can play with Gotze as a false 9 or Mandzukic, Pizzarro, or even Muller up top. Just in the game yesterday you could see the pressing was there, the short passing was there, but they could also go long to Mandzukic to lay it back or wide.

I think the bigger question is can Guardiola do it with a team that is not fully complete or has a real uprising in talent waiting to be nurtured. Would we even be there in that time frame? Time will tell, if Rodgers is doing a good job still by then, we should just keep him.

If rodgers has made the club "elite" then why would we change? our ethos is two fold. Youth and winning things. the best way to do both is to have long term stability. SO if rodgers succeeds to the extent to "make us elite" then why change. the stability and his age suggest more youth could be developed.... though to my mind i am at this point not enthused but the sustainability of changes made at academy level. In short are we still buying the same talent that lead to ibe, sterling, teix etc coming. I don't know. I can think of one guy for sure who came in. We'll see but this is not rodgers.

For me if it does succeed, and lets face it its based on SAS not on youth par se immediately, then why go change? Who is guardiola going to bring to make it CL winning or such?

Remember bayern are adding at either massive wages or massive massive fees based on YEARS of success so for me guardiola gets little to no credit for a second treble this year.

finally gaurdiola said 3 years is enough. ergo he's not the man for ten years is he? Our club doesn't have the technical directors and such a european side has.

its a good question but i see no reason to change, stability is key and rodgers is doing a good enough job, i hope he stays on for a very long time, more than fergie would be good, and hopefully more successful.

Guardiola is a great manager but if Rodgers makes us elite I wouldn't want to replace him.

gaurdiola = mourinho with less mouth... and probably less cheating too.

he'll be gone from bayern in 2 years. LFc don't need that. mourinho fell out at chavs, left inter, left porto and was sacked only at real for his longest stint.

Gaurdiola was literraly begged to stay at barca for 2 of his 4 years and then left and he'll leave bayern too i think.... no long term there. planning via technical board.

We don't have that so no thanks.

Bayern have a good balance of play imo, yes they play keep ball but can certainly mix it up and be more direct when needed, they also have the players to change it up so I don't go along with the OP.

Guardiola hasn't put a foot wrong yet but he has inherited 2 good teams.

Rodgers will probably get a 3-year extension in a couple of months, which makes the question relevant in 2-3 years when FSG has to ponder: Rodgers or Guardiola or Whoever.

IMO, FSG will want us top two in the league and UCL semis in the next 3 years. The Objective will certainly be discussed when Rodgers renews this year.

So IMO, even if Rodgers has us in 3-4 spot in the league and up to the R16 or QF in the UCL, it may not be enough for Rodgers in three years time.

Even so, with FSG deciding Rodgers has reached his plateau, I wouldn't prefer Guardiola as his replacement for the reasons stated.

That's a good reason to stay away from Guardiola IF the club continues to crave managerial vision stability and long-term input. Not totally sure the latter condition would stand with ambitions flaring in 2-3 years though TBH.

Guardiola is a perfectionist, and as all perfectionists, he gets easily vexed and stressed by the finer elements of the task at hand. Hence, his refusing of Barca's pleads and bidding adieu mid-season with weariness excuses. Not excuses imo, since as a perfectionist, he really had run himself to the ground - I believe that. But yes, the question does arise whether he can be somewhere for more than a cycle, or how deep his demands nick at players and the club.

IMO I don't think FSG would hire him asking more than 3 years of him. At that point FSG's objective could be: Win the EPL or the CL. If Guardiola does it once, they'd be happy to let him go if he wishes.

If Guardiola was content only managing his boyhood and career team, a team he helped sculpt from his time as academy coach, for a couple of years why would he be a good option?

As others have said, if BR makes us elite again, BR has to stay and gets carte blanche

The secret to Liverpool's success and glory has always been based on stability so why sacrifice this just to bring in a 'name'? Rogers is doing a very fine job and given the time and the encouragement he will be another Liverpool great in the making! None of my business I know but in Rogers I believe that you have the man to lead you to these glory years once again. He will create the next Anfield dynasty <ok>

Its a long time since then and Liverpools recent success ( the very small amount of it ) has come after sacking/removing the last manager.

2001 ( Evans had not long left ) 2005 Houlier had been sacked 2011 Hodgeson had been sacked.

So in reality, Liverpools success comes after the team get a boost from a new manager coming in. The same applies to many many clubs.

Stability however, well thats easy. Unless you are Manchester United, it hasnt worked for your club.

Guardiola has only ever managed amazing teams (usually the ground work has been done for him). Rodgers has managed third, second and first tier football. Arguably with Swansea, Martinez laid the foundations for their rise to the premier league but with Liverpool he is proving that he can build a team.

If, in 3-5 years Rodgers has us in the CL year in year out and constantly challenging for the title (with or without 19 under our belts) I wouldn't want to change him. With Rodgers we have the opportunity to keep a manager for the next 20-25 years and build a dynasty. He genuinely has the potential to be held in the same regard has Shanks & Paisley, this is not something we can say of Hodgson, Benitez (as much as I loved him) & Houllier

  18. Why would we be getting rid of Brod?

Guardiola is unproven. Anyone could win things with the Barca team he had!

Why laughing? Our best years were stable internal transition. our patchy years of trophies now and then were when we kept changing managers or ownership. All correct?

Difference between stability with mediocrity or incompetence at manager, admin or executive level or stability with excellence at all levels.... If BR continues as he has, if FSG continue as they are doing all very possible especially if we get some of that youth luck all at once that was the only foundation of your stable successful years, there is no reason it can't happen again I suppose.

But you'll find all this out over the next few years...bad owners, revolving managers, first year tasting it and you'll end up in 7th straight away lol....

... he has the potential to be compared to Shanks and Paisley if we continue in same direction as Bozz points out... not guarenteed... but we're progressing nicely this season.

... the amazing thing is... in his first 6 months he was more comparable to Hodgeson or Souness... he was dreadful.

Thank goodness FSG didn't knee jerk and fire him too soon.:D

Stability over a season at least seems to help us.
