Why don't we go completely left field and make someone else a striker, perhaps Ned or JB ? It worked for Forest for a bit and with our scoring ability in the last game, we could hardly be any worse.
It doesnt matter who plays up front if we dont create chances for the striker. Personally Id drop Hoilett for Wright-Phillips, he couldnt be any worse
After a 24 hour cooling off period and taking some time to reflect, I've decided that I would start with the same Xl. BAE might be the only exception but I would still start him despite last night. We really weren't as bad as some make out. We dominated and played some really good football. The only thing lacking was the goal to kill the unadventurous Seagulls off, it wasn't for the want of trying. Although we lost I feel that we are starting to look more like a team. You could definitely see more effort, enthusiasm, cohesion and urgency in the side. This is what we need to build upon. If we're going to achieve anything with the remainder of this season we need to field an unchanged side as much as possible. If we do that it will grow stronger as a unit. I was very critical of Keane last night, but in truth he has been thrown into the lions den. You can't fault his effort and with more game time he will grow in confidence. I have seen him play for England and Man U's U21 & junior sides. He is very confident, technically good and efficient when he gets the ball in front of goal. Until Doyle or Austin return to fitness I personally think we should stick with him. At least he has the right attitude, unlike so it seems Maiga.
Wise words 999's. I agree field an unchanged side as often as possible. Team spirit will develop and understandings will improve. Unless of course one of injuries are fit to return (Simpson) maybe. I am becoming less bothered on the result now and place a greater emphasis on our performance. Do the right things with the right attitude; the results will eventually come. I fear that if we somehow gain promotion we will struggle in the Premier League and we'll have the uncertainty of another overhauled squad. Build a team of young fit, hungry and keen to impress players and throw in a few guidance characters like Hill, Barton or Dunne.
Kind if agree. Thought it prudent to defend the lad from being thrown to the lions, but he can only show the other lightweights up surely!
Keane and Maiga are just not good enough and were bloody awful last night, Brighton were there for the talking and we failed to cash in.
Zamora and Johnson. They can't do any worse and it might force some of our superstars to get into the box
Good post Nines, I thought the same as you about Keane. And still do. Whilst personally I would change him as I thought he offered nothing, I can see your point of view as he may need a run of games (not exactly the situation we need though as we need players to come in and hit the ground running). For me however, if there is one player we should drop its Hoilett. In the last 2 games he has had so much of the ball and done nothing with it. In the second half against B'ham he clearly showed a lack of effort, and at times in the Brighton game I thought the same. It wasn't until O'Neill replaced him at B'ham that we secured the game (within minutes we got he 2nd goal from O'Neill starting the move).
Nah .......... no good picking Zamora, he'll go out in sympathy at the very mention of Johnson, who of course is a lifetime member of the Luke Young Club. Put someone who hasn't played a starting game and tell em' to fire up or they won't get another start.
what a mess we are in. all the build up before January's window how many text did we get off Tony saying we were getting a striker in. alas. i would stick with Keane he can only get better.( i hope)
