Half the clubs who've won the FA Cup have done so because they got a fortunate draw, it would still be our biggest ever achievement.
I agree with Macca- potential cup final appearance, potentially win a trophy. Not too fussed about playing some random Eastern European team in Europe.
I know that but look at Wigan. It hasn't really done that much for them has it. It's just a personal thing. You enjoy it over the summer and then it's gone. Europe would be real progress for the club, attracting new players and so on.
No clue why you feel that way. I'm young and I'm already buzzing about the chance, and I'm not even English.
Not sure either. Maybe because up until now it hasn't been that amazing for us. And the whole thing of playing a second string team pisses me off as well. It means not everyone is matching up full strength. It takes the shine away from the effort imo. Anyways LOGICALLY, we should all want to play Arsenal because playing Wigan gives us 50% chance of winning the cup and only 50% chance of Europe, whereas Arsenal gives us 50% chance of winning the cup and (almost) 100% chance of Europe. PS: although isn't there a small chance the FA would change things around if United finish 7th? There is a clause that the FA can change the rules in exceptional circumstances. Depends who'd they'd rather have in Europe us or mancs.
To be honest, we haven't really just stumbled through on the back of the reserves, we've gone for it pretty much all the way. Middlesbrough, we could have named a stronger squad, taking bench into account also. Southend, that was a very strong squad considering the distance in league position, I was very surprised how seriously we took them. Both Brighton games and the Sunderland games we played as strong a side as we could possibly field. Bruce even saved Aluko against Newcastle to keep him as fresh as he could be for the Sunderland game. We may have been slightly fortunate not to draw any of the big 7 or 8 sides in the country, but we've certainly earned our way to the semi final, and if we manage to make it through to the final, we'll certainly have earned our place.
No chance. Man U being **** is not exceptional circumstances, plus Man U are currently 6th and qualifying for Europe through the League Cup place. (Ironically Man City beating Sunderland might be what qualifies Man U for the Europa League next season )
I think he means that the winner of the league Cup gets a europa league spot. With man city winning the league Cup and likely to qualify for champions league the europa league spot will go to the team in 6th
This, and they don't need to finish in the CL spots, they only need to finish in the top 5 (the 4 CL spots and the Europa League place for PL position). As it stands, for it not to be the top 6 in Europe due to League position, Man City would need to finish 6th, and then they'd still all be in Europe due to the Cup win. For 6th place in the league to not be in Europe now would take Man City finishing 7th. Which means for us/Sheff U to not be in Europe would take one of these things: Wigan winning the Cup Arsenal winning the Cup and finishing 7th (or lower) Arsenal winning the Cup and finishing 6th, and Man City finishing 7th or lower.
Going back to the original post...would much rather play Wigan and actually increase the chance to win the F.A cup, than play Arsenal and be certain to qualify for Europe. I would love to see us play in Europe as this would be immense but to win a trophy and have our name etched in history forever beats playing in Europe every time. Ask yourself this. Who won the FA cup 5 years ago? Most of us could answer this. But could you answer who played in Europe 5 years ago
If Arsenal win the FA cup but finish 5th or 6th they qualify via their cup win and the league cup qualification would be handed to 6th or 7th place, depending on man city's final position. FA cup runners up would get ****erallidoolio.
f**k Wigan they have had there day in the sun and europe. It is our turn now. In saying that Wigan would be in the middle of the Play Offs come FA Cup final weekend. Arsenal for sure in the Final. Plus it gives Hull City bigger kudos If we were to win. Maybe also the last chance for both Davies and Huddleston to get into the England WC squad. It would be great to know that we are in europe whatever the result.
Teams only get messed up because they try and use the same players on a thursday and sunday. If your squad is deep enough and good enough it is not an issue. Spot On. !!!! We have some good airports close by as well. It is good money and under FFP worth while extra income. We would enter at the Final qualifying stage btw... Hardly. But any matches in say Holland or Belgium then P+O NSF would be very handy. I expect Everton to finish 6th myself. Man Utd wont be in europe at all next season. YES.!!!!
