Powell will go down as the last in a long line of traditional English managers at Charlton... Whilst I don't think this is the all important prerequisite... Murray previously shoved what limiting options produces, when he stuck with his "British manager only" approach, and then lumbered us with Dowie, but in this case I do think it's a sign that nobody other than a nodding puppet would manage under this "football strategy"... Charlton are now perfectly set up to be what Roley wanted us for in the first place... Just another club, in a growing list of feeder clubs for his beloved Liege...
It certainly looks that way at the moment. If it still seems that way at the end of the season, and we're in L1, an awful lot of fans will find they have other things to do on a Saturday afternoon. If we see: Thuram; Nego;Morro;Dervite;Wiggins; Wilson;Astrid; Cousins;Koc; Pete; Goochi. tomorrow it might be interesting.
I fully supported Slater and Jimi, and never understood the grief the Trust and the CL site gave them. I am not surprised they sold us I don't blame them at all. I only question who they sold us too!!! Mind you anyone's money good enough when you get publicly slaughtered by the very fans you want to support you. That said, it is only this morning that most CAFC fans have realised we are in bed with a snake of a man, a modern day Dr Frankenstein who is only after body parts to keep his Standard Liege experiment alive. If it works great, if not CAFC are facked. And the way I see it-we are facked. But so few of you responded against Roland when it is clear what he was up too. This tosser has got to go or it will be too late. I personally think we should all walk out of the game tomorrow on 70 minutes (if we are losing). I do this most games anyway to avoid traffic, so I will leave at half time. I do think there ought to be a protest, Anyone think of something?
It's a strange one, the majority of fans (myself included) wanted Powell gone, but find me one who wanted Riga to be his replacement. Better the devil you know perhaps. At least we may win some games next season.
Oh God no. I want the fans that thought it was perfectly acceptable to publically try and oust Slater and Jimi to act with the same fervour and get up and walk out. I want to see if this club that has fans can actually stand up and protest for something that is worth protesting about???!!! Roly has to go. I applaud getting shot of Powell but not selling our club out for organ donation. Why is today any different? we have sacked someone that was not performing up to our expected standard big deal? We are still left with a chairman that will do much more permanent damage if unchecked?
I wouldn't count on it, especially if FHB's line up is our regular starting XI. Thuram; Nego;Morro;Dervite;Wiggins; Wilson;Astrid; Cousins;Koc; Pete; Goochi.
Me. All season I've been demanding, 'Sack Powell and get Jose Riga in! AC Milan's Under 8s coach will lead to glory...' Or something like that.
It's a good thought... When fans start feeling like the bastard child in this family of his, they won't worry about missing the first 70 minutes either...
Lazio had an Empty Olympico stadium the other day in protest... we only have 16,000 fans anyway every week, they can empty surely. I won't be there tomorrow, starting the protest now! nah, I'm at uni, but it is breaking my heart when I next see a charlton game, it won't be the club that I have loved since I was about 8
I wanted TS & MS to sell up, I will make no secret of that nor will I apologise for it. They tied one hand behind Powell's back from the end of last season. What RD has done from the outset is tie both of Powell's hands behind his back. In hindsight yes, I would have TS & MS back but I will not apologise or feel bad for wanting them out in the first place as I firmly believe the reason I and many others wanted them out were valid and based on a sole desire to see our club succeed on the pitch. Despite my want for a change, I dont ever remember saying 'I really want MS & TJ to sell up to a foreign owner with no plan for the club other than to use it for spare parts', I wanted an owner that would back Powell in the transfer market so the club could progress on the field. For the first time in my time of supporting Charlton, I dont feel an affinity with the club. It has fast become a club I barely recognise and is something that will take more than a couple of positive results to rectify. Although, I will not be at the game tomorrow, I will continue to go to home games between now and the end of the season, but it is very unlikely I will renew.
I'm really angry with how RD has gone about this, it was clear Powell was never going to stay under his ownership, so why wait until we're bottom and mid-way through March to make the change? At least if this happened in January would could have said "well he can build his team and have a go" but now it looks a full gone conclusion we're down, and fielding the Liege B team. Like him or not, Powell brought through some of the most promising youth players in Solly, Harriott, Poyet and Cousins, if we're in league one next year I'd be surprised to see any of them
I am abroad at the moment, so I have no first-hand info, but I would be amazed if that were true. Unless you mean in the sense of putting the poor guy out of his misery when he has already been humilkiated by the sale of Kermorgant, perhaps by the sale of Alnwick and Smith too, the failure to use the Stephens money for new signings, and the foisting of euotrash on him. My view (albeit from 4000 miles away at present) is that Powell is liked and respected by the majority of Charlton fans and throughout the game. I am not worried for him, He will have no difficult finding a new job. And it maybe a better paid one, although I think Charlton is where he always wanted to be and it would have taken an amazing offer like England manager or a top six club to have persuaded him to leave voluntarily. I think the only thing that might now win RD some support among some Charlton fans would be the appointment of Curbs as D of F. But I cannot see that happening and in any case it would be more likely to end in lost respect for Curbs than enhanced respect for RD.
I hope these Belgians read the Football League rules... As Koc has only been signed on a Youth Loan he's not allowed to play in League matches, so am guessing if we do seem him in action then I guess retrespective action would be taken
TA, I hope you don't mind me fixing your quote to show how certain Charlton fans (including me, to an extent) will now be thinking.
Mainly going by the fans I spoke to on sunday, admittedly I haven't heard much anger at him at The Valley. I think the lack of goals is what's been his downfall, only 13 league goals from the current squad members this season, let's hope the new guy can change that otherwise it's curtains.
