One Sentence: Yes, I'm a naturally shy person.... Next Sentence: I don't understand why I wasn't captain more often.... Seems like a nice guy but
The guy left Spurs on a bosman and immediately joined Arsenal. He then left Arsenal saying he wanted to go abroad before joining Portsmouth. He also got duped into joining Notts County. Can anyone work him out?
Seems like money talks more than morals for Sol Anyone would think that this latest outburst would be timed to coincide with a book release......
I found him so frustrating. He had the ability to be a absolute quality player but his mindset was strange. Him and Tony Adams would have been an immense partnership, shame it didn't get more time.
Agreed. He seemed quite a fragile guy in the interview tbh....I remember him going to pot after a couple of well publicised mistakes. #itsallinhishead
In the first issues of Champ Manager, they had a very young Sol down as being able to play any position; defence, midfield or attack, left right or centre. How different did he turn out? God knows what the game makers were looking at There have been quite a few players over the years that I've liked as a player but not as a personality (as we see). Roy Keane was a fantastic player but an absolute cock of a person. John Terry is another one.
Question to Sol Campbell :Why did it took that long before you complain?. Should have done after retirement from international football
I was listening to Adrian Duhram the other day on Talksport and he said it best.. Campbell was captain of spurs, he came out in press conferences and said he wouldn't leave for Arsenal and that he was hoping to sign a new deal when out of nowhere he then went for the money at Arsenal. This is not the actions of a captain and as such its no surprise he was never England captain. Also, Beckham was capt. when Campbell was playing - Beckham has arguably been England's best captain for the last 40 odd years - certainly more inspiring than anyone I ever remember
That was the era when big CF's that could hold the ball up were lauded....and he wasn't bad in the air in front of goal.....so I get why they'd of seen potential in him when he was a kid. It seems kids specialise earlier these days.
Did Campbell become Arsenal captain? Or was it Vieira and Henry whilst he was there? Obviously, if he wasn't made captain there it was because he was black Edit: In answer to my own question... - Tony Adams (Sept 1996 – May 2002) - Patrick Vieira (July 2002 – July 2005) - Thierry Henry (July 2005 – June 2007) - William Gallas (July 2007 – November 2008) - Cesc Fabregas (November 2008 – August 2011) - Robin van Persie (August 2011 – August 2012)
When you bring race into sport.. very sad. Sturridge, Sterling are selected on merit to play for England on merits. Any country that looks into race colour or creed to select representative in sport are unlikely to win anything. Sorry Sol Campbell you are wrong.
I think there was a time when he was vice captain for England.....and that was taken away from him, 'robbing' him of potential future captaincies.....He acknowledged that Beckham was a good captain so I assume he meant when he wasn't available.....all smells of publicity stunt to me.
I think Steven Gerrard should have captained England more, but he was held back for being Scouse. Wayne Rooney too. And we'll see how many years Barkley gets to captain his country in years to come, even though he's palpably the best prospect we have for the next generation of England players. See, we can all be chippy, Sol.
