Penalties given: Chelsea + Spurs opponents = 15; Spurs + Chelsea opponents = 1 ------------------------------ wtf does this even mean?
About what I thought. We believed in ourselves enough to play you even for a half, but not enough to get a result. You could see the lack of confidence in the incessant and in the end suicidal backpassing. I also thought that while the way Sherwood set us up was overall well-conceived, and better than most would have done, we needed to give Ade a partner, which meant Soldado since Eiriksen was hurt. With two strikers we can score, and if we score we can win. Not to say we would have, necessarily, but not giving Ade a partner meant we very likely weren't going to score, and thinking we could get a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge was unrealistic. Last year Spurs opponents were awarded three penalties, while Spurs were awarded none. Chelsea opponents were awarded one penalty, while Chelsea were awarded twelve. So if you add the number of penalties Chelsea and Spurs opponents were awarded, it equals fifteen. If you add the number of penalties Chelsea's opponents and Spurs were awarded, it equals one. Is that comprehensible?
Whilst on the face of it, those stats are quite startling not quite sure what point is being made? It's clearly just coincidence. Perhaps we give away less penalties cos we have a better defence and are a better side so are being attacked less? Plus last year Bale was a serial diver so I don't have a lot of sympathy when he doesn't get a genuine penalty. We also have a lot of quick nimble players who spend time with the ball in and around the box and invite a lot of fouls. There are countless reasons why we get more pens.
I think a lot of the time its the difference between weaker and stronger teams, in other words if you can't beat a player skill wise then 'fowl' them (yes a deliberate play on words, couldn't resist it ) . How many times do we see Hazard have players 'go for him' because they know skill wise they will rarely beat him. In the box or out on the pitch.
This. I guess the op is one of those tin foil hat wearers. It's a conspiracy. I notice he didn't change it when Spurs got late pen after late pen early this season.
If anyone thinks we have the rub of the green with penalty decisions against us, then they clearly don't watch games. I can't think of a single time this season when a penalty has not been awarded against us when it should have been. There are very few times when the opposition actually enter our box. We have been awarded some dubious penalties however, I will not deny that.
Certainly true, however whilst not P.L, we had some shocking pens given against us in Europe last year. These things seem to go in cycles though ultimately the better teams are more likely to have a good ratio of pens for to pens against for the obvious reasons.
The thing I like about the sig is that the only opinion stated in it is not mine. I found the statistic intriguing. Other people are free to make of it what they choose. I didn't change it because it refers to the 2012-2013 season, as the first line indicates. The more time goes by, the less topical it is, of course. But I'm liable to leave it up till the end of the season, because I'm lazy, because I don't have anything compelling to replace it with, and because it continues to get interesting responses.
