You've lost the argument, so you lapse into logical fallacies. Change is a fact of life: we adapt or die. Now if you'll excuse me, I must go check on the progress of my Manchester Hunter kit order
Aw, now look what all of you have done! My popularity gauge has gone into the red! <collapses onto fainting couch, clutching a string of pearls> COYH!
You've lost the argument, so you lapse into logical fallacies. Change is a fact of life: we adapt or die.
Amazingly (but not surprisingly) you appear to have done both. Now I'll do one. Cheers, all! Hope you bring the same passion in mid-April.
That's what I thought after the game, that win must be great for all the Hull City fans who only live away from Hull who over many years have had to find out our score via, post, radio, phone calls, lately, texts and now with the internet can now watch the game anywhere in the world.
Then let's give a hearty cheer for Barnes; Civil Service; Crusaders; Forest of Leytonstone (later to become Wanderers), N.N. (No Names) Club (Kilburn); the original Crystal Palace; Blackheath Kensington School; Perceval House (Blackheath); Surbiton; and Blackheath Proprietary School! Hooray Royal Arsenal! Hooray Woolwich Arsenal! Hooray Newton Heath LYR Football Club! Hooray Ardwick Association Football Club! There are other examples. Here Endeth The Lesson.
A lot of those were because they moved and the name was no longer relevant or they started to represent an area instead of being a work's team. Give us any examples of changes in the last 90 years or so. Give us any examples of clubs changing their name to supposedly present a new image. AFC Bournemouth and...??? Give an example of a club changing its name in the belief it will bring in more revenue. If you think that was a lesson I hope you aren't a teacher.
Oh, so now the goalposts move from "there has never been a similar name change." Yet you yourself, Castro's Coffin, list AFC Bournemouth. Then there was Swansea Town becoming Swansea City. Then Wimbledon FC became Milton Keynes Dons. And as I mentioned previously, everyone colloquially calls Wolverhampton "Wolves" even though their official name is "Wanderers." I could cite other examples from other sports (the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Major League Baseball cited a rise in interest and revenue after being rechristened the Rays). So it doesn't happen often these days, but name changes do occur. Change is a part of growth, which is a part of life. And as I also said, all this name-change business is ultimately a distraction: what should really matter most is the club's performance on the field. Despite what some may think, I'm not here to justify Dr. Allam's horribly fumbled attempt to impose his will: honestly, I shook my head when he made his idiotic comments about "Manchester Hunter" and "(City fans) should die as quick as possible." In my view, it's all been blown out of proportion.
Do tell. On second thought, don't worry about it. I'll still support the club regardless of what's said in this thread.
