I understand that this is how Gus wants us to play but surely he must realise we haven't got the skills to do this. Many a time we have been lucky and at times given away goals I.E today and against Villa. Why not just stop doing it until he has built a team of his own that he knows are capable. It's just so frustrating when the mistakes creap in. We aren't Arsenal FFS
100% agree mate but Gus will not change it. It has cost us today, Arsenal, Villa & Hull at home to & it will cost us again to.
all good in theory we've made half a dozen mistakes i can think of off the top of my head. to survive and see what gus does in the summer is my dare to dream
There is a time for passing across the back and playing real football but there is also times when the best thing to do is to clear your lines and passit to someone higher up the field. Mistakes in the final third will be punished by the opposition so it all about making the right choice. These are premier league players so should have the skill and the ability to make decisions after all they are well paid to do just that.
It's annoying even watchin mannone warm up. As he practices the passes to the players. Why isn't this work done within the midfield. Creating triangles and runs etc, it possibly is but let's sort out the back at least. We can't be giving teams a head start by keep gifting them goals.
Almost every mistake that has led to a goal when playing it from the back has been made by Cattermole..He does have some good points, but passing is not one of them. However, I want us to persist in playing football rather than go back to the hoof it forward routine..
Sorry reg but he played 4 passes the first half today that Gerrard would've been proud of. If he makes one mistake he doesn't disappear. I don't think their second was his fault. He was scared of Meyler getting him sent off. To say he can't pass is a massive overstatement. He should've been subbed at half time as Hull targeted him and it affected his game. What we should've done was the same with Huddlestone but I.guess Gus isn't that type of boss and he'd rather win playing football
He could/should have headed the ball out for the Mayler situation but probably did not realise he was last man. Totally disagree that Hull targeted him into making errors or backing out of tackles. He had a good game ruined by schoolboy errors - end of.
Have a look again mate. Monumental **** up
Its the right way to play and he's trying to integrate it into the philosophy of the team,.yes its difficult when we have garbage passers like Oshea but all going well he won't be playing next season. It won't happen but I think Vergini alongside Brown would be best from now till the end of the season. Yesterday just highlighted how key Ki is. Our key players Mannone Brown Alonso Ki Johnson Borini all left out yesterday tells me that Gus is firmly concentrating on the league and whilst it would have been nice to get to the semi I want survival more.
Cattermole is capable of some cracking long passes, but when it comes to the short pass and go game he has undoubtedly been found wanting which has proved costly to us this season..
2 points. The first- the team we played yesterday wasn't good enough regardless of the style. Secondly- its about evolution. Playing the way Gus wants to will take time to do so consistently. Inevitably there will be **** ups along the way.
I probably mis-worded that - I don't mean not his fault - I think I meant more I don;t "blame him" - he should've got it and cleared it so it was his fault - but I can understand his reasoning for not doing it
What I can;t understand is what did he think for their third - if you watch the replay he passed the ball and turned away, then looked again and turned away - it was when others started running back that he realises he hadn't passed it to our player - is he colour blind or something? Did the stripes confuse him!? It was over after the first went in to be fair as we could've played till now with Hull having gone home and we still would've have scored (It might even be 4-0 by now!!)
Imo, Catt's first mistake was bad defending, should have been headed straight out for a Hull throw. His 2nd mistake was a matter of composure and awareness, not a passing mistake.
