Oasis long gone Albert. I think the last straw was when the bouncers were all done for selling drugs. I wonder, was this a factor behind you pulling yer missus?
My favourite pub memory was walking into the Mainbrace as a teenager and seeing Paul Heaton writing lyrics in a corner. That was a sublime moment. Sorry to tell you Albert but Mainbrace has gone and is now a block of student flats.
Not read this thread but the Lion & Key in the Old Town is a fantastic pub. I love real ale, it was where I had my last Hull pint with my Dad just after the May 4th Cardiff match and it holds some great memories. I work in Liverpool so obviously have some Everton-supporting colleagues. I plan to invite them to this pub for a pre-match drink before our final match of the season, (when we'll be mathematically safe of course!)
I used to work in there whilst I was still at college and go back from time to time - the vodka in there is lethal, and for Prinny Ave area pretty reasonable! I've not been in a lot of the pubs mentioned, but I do like a pint in Black Boy after work. I also like Courts on Green Ginger, was my local what I worked at Clearanswer, and even though it's not the best pub in the world at £1.50 a pint its hard to argue.
I first heard Bob Dylan sing up there. Freewheeling was the prize on the raffle, he wasn't singing live. You bought your ale downstairs and carried it up. Atmospheric place. Sadly missed. That's the upstairs concert room. Bluebell still there. Run by a Forest fan.
My favourite pubs to go to in hull when i'm there are Ye Olde White Harte, Ye Olde Black Boy, O' Rileys and Rugby Tavern
Cant be worse than the one in Polar Bear mate. Got the mrs well drunk anyway and will be having a skinful tomorrow so taking it easy tonight. Yourmate popped in on Thursday, was expecting you?
I still haven't seen you play yet, post(or PM) your next gig and I'll try and pop along. I was at Ash's birthday party last weekend, it seems the tribute album is going really well, you're not contributing are you? I haven't been asked to contribute, though that's probably because Ash and Shelly have heard me play.
I remember being in Kingston near Holy Trinity in the early 80's on a sunday night when Roland Gift was in the corner with a girlfriend. At the time Suspicous Minds had just gone to no 1 in the UK and FYC had , i think, a no 1album in the US. He's a Pretty cool guy.
Had an interesting evening in "The Old English Gentleman" last time I was in Hull. Not flash by any means but aside from one horrible drunken old egg chaser, it was a friendly pub, topped off by the barman tossing a guitar over the bar to one of the patrons who led us all in a chorus of "I'm a believer". I'm sure there are much nicer pubs - which I'll be sure to check out next time thanks to the list on this thread - but the aforementioned evening just brings back good memories.
