I would say that's harsh. As much as people like to say that a high profile figure coming out isn't much of a big deal, it really is when you take everything into account. Homophobia is rampant everywhere in football and to a much louder extent than racism is. In the stands, the dressing rooms, the training grounds and all other areas where a football club's staff operates and its fans follow, people make openly homphobic comments and have little to no reservation to show their homophobia. We even have a homphobe tonight on MOTD. I say that we have to give a lot of credit to those brave enough to come out first as they're risking a tonne of abuse in both their workplace, personal life and all over the internet and in doing so make it easier for other gay people to eventually come out and hopefully at a time when people are more accepting of it.
Homo footballer, homo rugby player who cares, get a life, don't sweat, I couldn't give a damn if the prime minister was gay, or if we had the first royal gay. Live your life and be proud of what you are, just stay away from Islam.
I wasn't saying it wasn't a big deal I was saying he is making too big an issue of it by doing it like that, why say in a few days time I'll tell the world in the form of a daily newspaper. Why did he just not do it at the time. I have gay friends and know exactly what they have been through, and the false lives they lived until they were brave enough to 'come out' Of course homophobia is more rampant because there are laws against racism so racist are being 'dealt with' there is nothing to protect many other people in different walks of life. Have you ever watched women's ice hockey, there are many lesbians in this sport and Sarah Vaillancourt is a shining example of someone who came out at the very beginning of her career and has done so much to encourage others to do the same.
We just need to see who has the most fabulous goal celebration... that's your man! No seriously though, why is this a story? There are lots of gay people around, get over it. This is the 21st century, it's a shame that some people are still living in the stone age however.
