    with 38 points on the board, we are probably around five wins from survival. It's looking like Shrewsbury at home on the 3rd May could become a very vital fixture against our fellow relegation strugglers, pick your five wins;

    League One
    Gillingham v Crawley Sat 8 Mar 15:00
    Gillingham v Coventry Tue 11 Mar 19:45
    Bradford v Gillingham Sat 15 Mar 15:00
    Gillingham v Crewe Sat 22 Mar 15:00
MK Dons v Gillingham Tue 25 Mar 19:45
    Gillingham v Rotherham Sat 5 Apr 15:00
    Peterborough v Gillingham Tue 8 Apr 19:45
Leyton Orient v Gillingham Sat 12 Apr 15:00
    Gillingham v Tranmere Fri 18 Apr 15:00
    Walsall v Gillingham Mon 21 Apr 15:00
    Preston v Gillingham Sat 26 Apr 15:00
    Gillingham v Shrewsbury Sat 3 May 15:00

This looks scary, with three matches against potential promotion/playoff contenders, Posh, Orient and Preston all AWAY! Oh and not forgetting the bouncing pizza's team at home. I can't even pick the five <doh>

    Table:
    13 Crawley 28 -3 38
    14 Oldham 34 -9 38
    15 Gillingham 34 -14 38
    16 Coventry 31 3 37
    17 Carlisle 33 -17 37
    18 Tranmere 33 -17 36
    19 Colchester 31 -4 35
    20 Bristol City 34 -7 35
    21 Crewe 34 -25 35
    22 Shrewsbury 32 -12 31
    23 Stevenage 32 -20 31
    24 Notts Cnty 34 -19 30

Your match selections please for retaining our League One status...

Going on current form I struggle to see where more than two wins will come from! I believe we will beat Crewe and Tranmere and pick up a few draws against Coventry and Bradford so my guess is we will be on 46 points going into the game against the Shrewsbury and I win will be needed to secure our position in this division

Love to be proven wrong and two good results in our next two hone games will do that

    Come on u Gills

The next 4 matches against team around us are vital now... Anything less than 7 points from those, and we are going to be in real trouble, as I really can't see us getting anthing from the following 4 (MKD through to Orient).

Don't want us going in to that last match needing a win for survival, as history shows, that never seems to go the right way for the Gills...

I think we will win this weekend against Crawley, away to bradford, home to crewe, home to tranmere, and hopefully on the last day against Shrewsbury! Its all a bit tight now but looking at those fixtures I cant seem to find one that we cant win but thats League 1. Every game on that list we can win if we play well and I truly believe that. If you look at the bottom 4 right now I think your seeing the teams that will go down but I honestly don't care who goes down as long as its not us! We need to make Priestfield a fortress and as cliche as that sounds if we can get the results at home it doesn't matter if were poor away (considering 4 of the last 5 have been away from home) keep the faith and we will get out of this position we just need it to click again.

As it is difficult for me without research to gather the current points ratio for other teams around us, I found this on the Colchester twitter page, tweeted just over 10 minutes ago...

Last time we were relegated because we couldn't win away. Now we are much more likely to spring a surprise or two. Will be relieved to beat Crewe as they so often spoil things for us. Exciting times - normal times - for Gills fans. Remember back in short trousers days 1970 when we had to win on the last day of the season at Champions Orient to stay up - and we did it!

I've said in another thread that once the other teams around us have played 'catch up' we could easily find ourselves in 20th position. Whilst that might be enough [just] to stay up, I really don't want to risk replicating the Wycombe scenario----- I think you might need a very large banhammer.

Unfortunately, it seems that people are already talking in term (hope) that the current bottom four continue to perform so 'well' and stay in situ. The ride is going to be uncomfortable - and it looks like it was too much for one of our (ex)membership........... If we get relegated you might need to accept the fall out.

Now - everybody all join in "Happy days are here again, la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la happy days are here again"

Points to stay up over the last 3 seasons have been 49/44/48 so three wins and a draw will probably be enough.Six points from the Crawley/Crewe/Tranmere/Shrewsbury games and a win and a draw from the others is a realistic aim and might be achievable.
Just as important as staying up is to do some planning and experimentation for next season or we will be in exactly the same boat in a years time.
Key to staying up is form and fitness. Kedwell Hewitt and Harriman need to be playing well and McDonald needs to wake up otherwise we are sunk.

4 Wins and a couple of draws should keep us up starting with at least 4 points in our next two home games. Confident we will get 50 points at least! Which may be enough. If we get less than 3 from these two games don't think we will get to 50 points though.

At least it keeps the season alive even if for all the wrong reasons and looking at the bottom of the Championship, possible more local ties against the likes of Millwall or even Charlton 'might' be on the cards and are even more reason to stay up. I'll be only to happy to share a pint again with mightywall. Looking at the top of League Two, the Northern Elite might even be happy. So many positives to stay here.

In regards to ex members, all i sincerely ask is exchange constructive views, opposite opinions, in a pleasant manner, exactly as members have done on this thread. Any NEWBIES (new accounts) that have alternative means will be shown the exit. I want nothing more than this to feel a safe place for all our members to be able to engage in debate.

I've had a quick look at our next 4 games,

    Crawley playing away..............1 win, 3 draws, scored 7, conceded 6, points 6.

    Coventry playing away............1 win, 3 loses, scored 3, conceded 9, points 3.

Bradford playing at home.........2 wins, 2 draw, scored 5, conceded 3, points 8.

    Crewe playing away.................1 win, 1 draw, 2 loses, scored 6, conceded 6, points 4.

Gillingham playing at home.......3 wins, 1 loss, scored 6, conceded 3, points 9.

so from that it's a draw against Crawley, win against Coventry, draw against Bradford, win against Crewe. 8 points in the bag.

Or it will go nothing like that and we'll leave it to the last couple of games needing wins.

It's a bit pointless trying to predict which teams we are likely or unlikely to get points against.

We all know that we've beaten Wolves, Swindon and Vale recently - all teams above us.
We've played very well against Orient and Brentford.
Then been absolutely cack against Colchester, Sheff U, Notts C and Stevenage.

It will be a roller-coaster ride from now till May. I sure hope we do get the 4 or 5 wins needed, but it most definitely won't be the 4 games we 'should' win. Just look at the last 3 games :(
