Why's that, everyone here is in a rush to get out of all competitions and hang on to 14# spot anyway. Becoming the new Fulham of the PL. Getting tall defenders, strong brutal midfielders and strikers won can head...

Yes, but don't forget it was 1 week before our first major final...understandable under the circumstances as players heads were likely elsewhere

Specializing in all round bad luck is closer to the truth as far as I'm concerned . We did our best , and weren't rewarded imo . Law of average says 3 points on Sunday .If you analyze the 5 of 6 games we didn 't win under Monk so far you have 2 games against a Champions League team and we were right there with them . The Liverpool game away was a good showing but Liverpool are an in form team at home . Everton game we threw basically and a draw against Stoke . I won't even give Monk and the team a sharp look if we fall to Palace . It's the West Brum game and on that I 'll start drawing conclusions from after our lengthy break.

...no, I'm pretty sure this thread was created entirely for mikra to push his agenda through a poorly made point.

I think you make a fair point, though maybe the Stoke draw deserves more credit than we might be giving it.

Well I got some very interesting info at a meeting of some well connected Jacks tonight over a jar of course, and I now have the utmost admiration for Huw Jenkins and our board, they made the right decision without doubt, and I can understand fully the statement by our board, that they wanted to get back to the principles of our club!............<ok>

PS: And as for those sad sad Laudrup Sycophants well tough cheese girls, glad he's gone..................<laugh>

I'm sorry. Didn't think you seriously thought we'd beat Napoli over 2 games..
I'm rather experienced in being a fan watching late stages of Europa League.

Then you're pretty wrong. It was a conclusion based on the two matches mentioned. I'm not worried or bitter...

hmm - not sure I get your position here. One moment we are wide open, naive and too attacking, then we are destined to sign a bunch of Stoke rejects and play the long ball. It seems, to me, rather inconsistent with the points you've been making about Monk and the Swans.

I would also suggest that the average height of the team has risen under Laudrup (under Rodgers we had a centre mid of Britton and Allen, with Dyer and Routs as wingers (although more often Sinclair). We only really had a few players over six foot. I can think of Graham, Caulker, maybe Gylfi (I'm not sure how tall he was)...

I'm not criticising Laudrup for raising the average height, because a) we were probably lacked the physical side and b) players like Michu, Bony, Davies, Canas etc are hardly cloggers. However, it does mean that going for big fellas can't really be levelled at Monk when Britton and Dyer struggled to get into the team over the last season and a half and are now back in.

You are welcome to your opinion - and there are parts of me that recognise the whole terrible run of fixtures and injuries argument to support Laudrup, combined with a clearly strained relationship being a distraction. I get all that, I really do, and as he brought us our first trophy and had such a great season, I really find it hard to dislike the guy. That said, we couldn't remove the board that did so well for us and, if they couldn't work together, then the only choice was to have a manager they could work with. Does that mean Jenkins was wholly in the right? Not necessarily. Does it mean Laudrup was wholly right? Not necessarily either.

When these sorts of things happen, no-one comes out clean and we just have to look at the way the Swans can move forwar. In that way, the pace and invention of the Swans play has improved. I imagine the stats reflect the greater number of chances created and a greater % of play in the opposing half. Maybe not the results just yet. The defense didn't look wholly secure before, and that hasn't changed enough really - something I would be interested in seeing how Monk works on it. I have noticed that, with the added protection offered by the return of Britoon, that Chico has felt less of a need to charge into midfield and that element of his game, something that was causing a number of the goals we were conceding, seems to have been tempered - has anyone else noticed that?

Meaning that playing naively and without a defensive plan is the clubs principles, I very much doubt that. If that was the case Swansea would never have risen through the ranks. But playing like this and conceding as against Napoli and Pool, this will end in a season or two. Just as Fulham are going down now...

I do not think we will go down regardless if ML or Monk was/is the manager. Waiting for the announcement of the new manager though

May I suggest you watch some of the Martinez era. It is BECAUSE of this style of play, we have risen to where we are today, and provided we keep signing quality players to play the 'Swansea Way' we will not end up like Fulham. Also, should we keep playing like we did against Napoli and Liverpool, we will batter the poorer teams in the Premiership and thus survival wouldn't be an issue <ok>

Mikra Im worried that you could be spot on, Monks record of 1 win in 6 is extremely poor, worse still is his tactical naivety. As a footballer Monk was playing above himself at Championship level, I hope he does'nt bring that limited mindset to management or we could go down this year. We are currently playing like Martinez played last year and his club went down. If Monk does lose the next two games we will be in a real fix, I don't think he will have the tactical nous to change it. Here's hoping he proves me wrong in the next game. If he doesnt he'll find his supporters here and elsewhere dropping him like a s**tty stick. Plenty on here with form for that.

PS, people seem to forget their critticsm of Martinez for precisely those reasons of tactical naievity, and Monk wasin the defence that shipped a load of goals, it took Sousa to give us some spine.

I could give you a list of games under Laudrup that fitted your above description, and not least the first Cardiff game, and his last game at West Ham!......<cheers>
