This is quite a surreal read ... if I take out the player's names and insert blue shirt for hoops, it really does describe our season so far ... football is indeed a fickle mistress and as supporters we really do need to enjoy making hay whilst the sun shines ... we have a Championship prediction league on our board (which I'm pretty average at to be fair) but I did predict us winning 4-1 at home to Derby and 3-0 to Ipswich ... shame I didn't put any money on those... but my real point is, that once we get the bit the bit between our teeth these days ... we do expect to score goals (and are doing) ...
Exactly, and moments like this - @ 8:15 fantastic pass for Routledge to score the winning goal against Coventry.
There's one particular moment for me. An evening fixture vs Portsmouth where we were playing just ok, and benefited from a poor piece of goalkeeping to take the lead following a speculative 30 yard shot from our Moroccan Magician. The Pompey supporters - who had been in great voice all evening - piped up 'where were you when you were &@#%'. To a man, myself and virtually every supporter around me stood up pointed to the pitch and cast a resounding reply of 'HERE!'. That to me summed it all up. The sweet after 14 long years of sour.
What a talent!! "That" nutmeg and goal v Swansea is forever etched in my memory. God I loved that season!!
Knowing that we would score on a regular basis.......watching the movement of Adel, Routledge, Ale, HH knowing that we were always likely to score......lifting that lovely old trophy at the end of the season......
Watching Adel destroy Swansea single handed, singing 'top of the league' & our final game against Leeds, the noise inside Loftus Rd & the noise down the Uxbridge Rd after, Seems so long ago!
Hearing the news at the pub before the game that we had not been deducted any points. I'll never have that feeling again, jumping on the chair chanting "we're top of the league, we're top of the league, we're queens park rangers, we're top of the league" great times
I loved the results from that season but not the football. It was awful stuff, nearly as bad as this year but with a stonier resolve throughout the team. There's a lot of misty eyed revisionism taking place here. And it was only three years ago!!
Really mean no offence Swords but I went to every home game that season and we took teams apart playing decent football, not sure what games you picked up on tv?
Seen 35+ games that year mate and it was rare we took teams apart. We bludgeoned our way to promotion rather than outplaying sides. The only difference was, of course, Taarabt being on fire. Apart from him, it was the usual Championship practice of wearing the other team down and grinding them into submission. Not complaining about it by the way. It was fantastic. Exactly the way you've got to play in this division to win promotion. Again, other than Tarbs, it was a typical COLIN team built around industry and strength. That basis allowed Taarabt then go and do what he did, which was brilliant. But don't forget that outside of those moments of brilliance was 80-odd minutes of total attrition against equally stubborn Championship hard-heads. Most of the games really wouldn't have been pleasing on the eye from a neutral perspective.
I miss Taarabt, Faulin, Mackie, Routledge, Smith and Helguson. I loved the amazing unbeaten run at the start of the season. I loved being top for all but a hand full of days for the entire season. But mainly I miss the excitement and optimism of having such an attacking team to be proud of. We had goal scorers throughout that team and netted 71 times. Even One Size and Hulse scored FFS!
I rememember many moments of brilliance from Ale, Paddy, the RB we loaned from Spurs for a few months now an England player, I forget his name haaa, Routledge, HH, the big quick striker who got us the late winner home to Leicester, and my Lord Derry picking up behind Adel, from Gorks in his way, and Danny ****tu whenever he played -I still love to watch him play.
Don't forget HHs epic header at palace after they scored a last minute equaliser. There is zero to like about this season unless you're a teletext watcher.
We played some great football that season. The front 4 were always interchanging positions, making our attacking play very fluid and incisive. Fantastic to watch, knowing that we nearly always going to play well and usually win.
I'll never forget that header. I was in a packed pub in Trondheim which was showing many different games from the PL at the same time. His winner sent me absolutely beserk - which moved quite a few heads from the boring same same top Clubs of their choice! But Charlie has scored a few good goals this season, so though I was a big admirer of HH, I can't really say he was better that season, than Charlie has been this.
