After reading some peoples views on the best commentators for us, quite a few have said its great to hear Andy Grey back. Am I the only one who thinks he's awful? Yeah he brings enthusiasm to the game which can be good but his description of a football match is pathetic. I listened to him recently in the Everton v Stevenage in the FA cup and he described the Gueye goal as 'he shielded the ball away from the defender with his left foot and then brilliantly finished against the keeper' what sort of description is that? Can you really shield a ball with just your left foot? For me it was great he got the boot as his commentary with Martin Tyler was pathetic. Sooner Martin Tyler decides the retire the better and Alan 'Smudger' Smith too.
commentators are just like everything else, you get good and bad ones. i didn't think he was that good either, but must be a demand for him sadly, just hope it don't last long lol. think how many channels now cover footie games, always going to be ones we like and don't like somewhere along the line.
Of course you can. IF your foot is between player and ball then the chances are it will be a foul should the defender attempt to get the ball. I don't know of that particular goal but I would imagine from the description it means Gueye was stepping across his man to protect the ball therefore his foot was there but his body hadn't arrived? PS; I like Andy Gray commentating too, despite his clear biasness for the bitters
Nah,your not the only one RS. That **** Andy Gray should never have been offered another job in football after his appalling behaviour towards women with that other ****. They have been let in the back door again, hoping no-one would notice.
Robbie Earle Never has a good word to say about us and is the dullest bloke ever. Don't mind Mike Ingham and John Champion.
You can shield the ball with your body, but not your foot. The maximum you can do with your foot is trap it.
As I said, as a player goes to shield the ball, he puts his leg across to get inbetween man and ball. AKA; leg shields ball. Its not an intentional move but it is possibly.
yeah what were are talking here is not commentator but the guy who sits beside the commentator and says asinine things to fill gaps. neville is ok, grey is a **** and as for owen... his voice is awful. we are really looking for well spoken people for the job and they are few and far between. however... 2005... olympiakos.. grey goes down in a small part of our history.
That Clark Carlisle guy is by far the worst imo. Hes one of those militant anti racism twats that get offended by everything but my ears are offended every time I hear that clown commentating. I wouldn't mind but he was really a terrible footballer.
Don't tend to pay too much attention to them. I couldn't believe that BT sport had signed Andy Gray though when was listening to our of our games a couple of weeks ago. In regards to Owen, I can't understand how on his commentary he's so dull and monotonous yet when you see him in a couple of adverts, the one when he's commentating on himself scoring, and then when he's trying to hit the FA cup, he actually shows some bloody emotion and is far more interesting! Someone needs to tell him to act like that during the games as well.
Really disagree with you here. They did wrong and were punished but this doesn't mean they should be denied doing the job they were good at doing (arguably) for life because of it. Should Suarez also be denied the chance to play football for the rest of his life for biting, or John terry for his racist remarks or Roy Keane for assulting Harland ? If was correct to sack them but that doesn't mean they should be denied the chance to come back into the job in my opinion
Thought Andy Grey was great the other day but have never been able to stand him. Jonathan Pearce always nuances things against liverpool particularly Suarez and I can't stand him either. To Andy Greys credit whomever the main commentator was with him the other day he regularly put him straight when he called liverpool players for anything at all. Michael Owen is also getting better but still boring as Moyes.
Unfortunately I've had to put up with Keys and Grey all season. We only have access to Al Jazeera over here and the ****ers have been anchoring it for ages. They are seriously ruining the footy for me. I tend to just mute the TV now at half time because they wind me up that much. Richard Keys sucks up to Grey so much and tees him up for all of his little bits of useless analysis. Plus he always interrupts whichever ex-footballer or ex-manager they have that week with his own ****ty opinion, instead of letting them share their professional insight into the match. They had AVB on the week after he had been sacked and hardly let him speak. Grey is just a ****ing useless dinosaur of a man. His analysis offers no insight other than 'it's a game of two halves' clichés, and he's just always in boisterous LAD mode. Him and Peter Reid often do half time together...
Alan Smith and Michael Owen are the most boring by far - no personality whatsoever. Jonathan Pearce, Clive Tyldesley and John Motson are the least knowledgeable on football but act like they're experts. Niall Quinn is the most clueless ex-professional on the box. Clarke Carlisle and Jason Roberts - I don't take anything they say seriously.
Jamie Redknapp annoys me in this respect. He's so eager to prove to everyone he knows his stuff and he has this annoying habit of asking questions to other guests.
