Think Dave was always gonna be a gamble but something is seriously wrong when you have the talent Utd have and aren't creating chances/scoring goals consistently. There has been bad luck but that's no excuse. I feel bad for Moyes & was optimistic but a manager who has the likes of Rooney, Van Persie, Kagawa, Januzaj, Mata at his disposal and can't win games against mediocrity is not a good fit - even Carrick, Fellaini, Rafael, Jones, Fletcher (when available) have not become bad players overnight. Of course we could do with improvements in defence & midfield but I think with a more suited manager it's not as big a rebuilding job. A front four of Rooney, Van Persie, Mata & Januzaj under the control of say, Guardiola or Klopp would not be struggling to create chances and no one would be saying we need 5/6 new players. Obviously the players have to bear some responsibility but it's hard at the moment to see things changing under the current leadership. I don't think Moyes is a bad manager, just incompatible or a little out of his depth.
That is a quality forward line when you have the ball but 3 of those 4 will give you nothing when you don't have the ball. Therefore you need one hell of a midfield to provide the supply and break up play. Players like Fellaini and Carrick just seem too immobile to give you the luxury of playing all 4 of those in the same team. The less said about the likes of Young, Cleverly, Giggs (now) the better. Also with those 4 you won't get as much natural width that United have always had, which makes the Mata signing / Rooney staying decisions a little more odd.
Fair point - this is still a squad that should be playing better football and creating chances. The results aren't the hard part, it's the performances - if we're gonna get beat, at least go out swinging. If we're gonna get beat anyway, might as well try and outscore the opposition. Yeah, funny that he doesn't always play the naturally wide players, yet our prominent means of attack are crosses into the box. I honestly think that he doesn't know what system to play with the players available. RVP had a moan to the Dutch press about other players being in his space, might be telling.
Its not really Moyes' fault that the likes of Young, Nani and Valencia have been so poor but like you say commit to one system. Either play wingers and go for crosses or (like Chelsea) pick a more interchangeable front 3 behind a striker and try to play with more guile. Paying 37 million for Mata and sticking him out wide probably illustrates this the best.
There is nothing wrong with motes. Greatest manager to ever grace your club and should be given at least another three years to fully make his impact at the club. His motto should be "A little done, lots more to do"
BREAKING NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> You're still lumped with him, United reportedly deny the rumours..........
"David Moyes, the Squad and the Future" In the words of the Pistols, " No future, no future, no future for me"
Hi Chief I think you missed a trick when you didn't make the voting public (i.e identify who voted for what). That way we could work out whether United fans still supported Moyes or not. I have a feeling that the yes vote could be made up of many wums and ABUs. may be a repeat public vote next time?
You can't blame us for wanting Utd to keep him and possibly give him an extension to his 6 year deal.
