I was just thinking that this Modric transfer saga could be over a little sooner than the 1st September deadline. I'm not entirely sure of the rules but as I understand it, if we name Modric in our Europa League squad, another team won't be able use him in the Champions League until 2012. I'm not sure the exact date but I think we name the squad at the beginning of August and whilst it won't kill off the interest it could help throw a spanner in the works for the bastards trying to knick our little maestro.

Hmmm, this might be out of date then? I found: "17.07 Excluding the three rounds of the UEFA Intertoto Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, and subject to paragraph 17.18 below, a player may not play UEFA club competition matches for more than one competing club in the course of the same season. A substitute player who is not fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the same season’s UEFA club competitions, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in accordance with the present Regulations. One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded: − in the same competition for another club − for another club that is currently in the same competition" Is it me or are those two bullet points at the end the exact samething, written in a different order?

Cheers, HD Still struggling to find any up to date CL documents, 08/09 is the latest I'd found and that still seems a bit unclear to me. As I now understand it Modric would be unaffected if he moved to Chelsea after being registered for EL with us, unless Chelsea finished 3rd and dropped into the EL where he would be inelligible. Not getting CL football bites us on the arse again!
Thanks Ensil. It look like I was incorrect in my initial assumption and his registration for us wouldn't affect his availability for the CL if he moved.
