The partnership seems to be brewing up very nicely. Even they are loving it so far: http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/long-loving-jelavic-pairing-30037016.html SHANE LONG believes he can strike up a superb relationship with Hull City strike partner Nikica Jelavic. Long failed to score for Hull in Saturday's win over Cardiff City but he still played a major role in the win as a foil for Croatian teammate Jelavic, Long creating three of the four Hull goals. And Long, who is cup-tied for tonight's FA Cup meeting with Brighton, is enjoying his role alongside Jelavic. "I am enjoying playing with Jela. We are working well. I said to him after his second goal, 'We have to get you your hat-trick now'. But he replied, 'No, no, we have to get you a goal'. I thought that was great and said a lot," says Long. "That is what a good partnership is all about. We both put ourselves about a bit and things are going well. There is a lot of work still to do but so far, so good," added Long, who rues the fact that he is ruled out for the Tigers' FA Cup run, having played for West Brom in the third round. "It will be just my luck that the lads will get to Wembley and I will have to watch from the stands," said Long. "Seriously, I hope they can go all the way. It would be brilliant for the team and for the club. The lads are playing well enough to get there. "I don't think the manager has ever got to Wembley in the FA Cup (as a boss). It would be nice to do that for him and the club. I just look to the next game, which for me is Newcastle. All week, the focus has all been about Cardiff and getting a good result."

The perfect pair we have not seen the likes for many years, good old fashioned strikers. My brother-in-law a Baggie is seriously dissapointed that they sold such a talented player. At least he has a soft spot for us so gets to see Long continuing to perform at his best.
Why do we have to give them nicknames, because other teams do it? It's Long and Jelavic, **** all these nicknames.
The only allowable football nicknames are as follows... Rush becomes Rushie, Bruce becomes Brucie, Rosenior becomes Rosie. Or Jackson becomes Jacko, Robson becomes Robbo, Elmohamady becomes Elmo and so on. If you tried fancy **** like J-Lo on a Sunday league pitch you'd quite rightly get snapped in half.
You've just repeated the quote there? Anyway, I liked that bit too I find myself referring to them all by their first names at matches. Sometimes an abbreviated version too. I must sound like a right numpty.
First names is only bettered by those using shirt numbers. Such as... Get tight number four and that's bloody rubbish number seven. It's a bit too latin for me.
Only if someone takes that Jenny from the block video and edits it so it is Jella from the block and edits Long in to replace Ben Afleck.
In the spirit of sharing, I do the same. "G'on Jake", "Great ball Tommy" like I'm their best mate... Elmo, Davies, Sagbo all remain surnames though. Jelavic and Long are looking great together, their work rate is fantastic, really make life difficult for the opposition and when we break, they're always involved... running channels, giving options... starting to look like £12-14m very very well spent.
I call them all by their first names at matches, as if I know them all personally, which I feel like I do.
