Well deserved victory - other than a disallowed goal and a penalty appeal for handball (difficult to tell from the other end if there was contact on the arm and if it was in the area) Chesterfield offered very little. Although the Spireites were below their best much of this was down to the hard work and organisation across the whole Wycombe team. Max added some attacking intent to the midfield, McClure had his most effective game for a long time and Jeffery at least offered a threat over the top. The defence was rock solid and the replacement of the Doc by Stewart part way through had little effect. PCH and Stych when they came on also offered a threat. The bench looked strange - as we can only make 3 changes having 4 forwards and PCH on the bench was puzzling. I assume McCoy, Spring, Fletcher and Dunne are all injured. If so we need some cover as the injury to the Doc (his arm or ribs) looked like it might be quite serious. I would say that the team is clearly playing for the manager and generally looks well organised (they have still only conceded more than 2 goals twice all season) but still don't look like scoring many (only scored more than 2 goals twice all season). Although it was a long time since the last win the team are competitive (unfortunate to lose to both Oxford and Pompey and lots of other narrow defeats) and should just have enough. Northampton and Torquay have played each other twice and can't pick up points off each other and Pompey are still the worst team I've seen this season.
Sorry for the delay celebrating our win last night Totally agree with Bicester the lads all worked there socks off I've never seen McClure work so hard long may it continue and Max worked hard both ends of the field and deserved his goal I wondered who our penalty taker was going to be. As the game went on they increasingly changed into a long ball team which we have leant to deal with and if there was going to be a second goal in the game we looked like we were the team who were going to get it I was only worried when the Doc had to go off but I shouldn't have as Stewart handled their giant forward who came on at half time superbly and I bet Ingram wasn't expecting such a quiet afternoon lets hope for more of the same for the rest of the season Keeping the faith
I think so Ron its a been a steep leaning curve for him but I think Spring excluded its his squad now and we may still be 22nd in the table but just 8pts off 8th place and with 45pts still to play for and with 7 games in 4 weeks this time next month we will have a much clearer picture
just seen the highlights, think the ref got both the key decisions correct from what I can see, though the offside isent the clearest. you can see at the end how much the win means, and getting that 5 point gap from the bottom is good, now we just have to put some teams and some daylight between us and the bottom
There all interesting games when the top seven are looking for promotion and the rest are in a relegation fight
I have heard that we cannot afford to play Spring and we are just waiting for his contract to run out (has match bonuses and goal bonuses etc that could potentially cost us a hefty sum)don't know how true that is but it makes some sense as to why he is not being play it cannot be that he is just not liked!
The crowd were jumping all 3 sides singing along it was a bit like the old days really. I had a sore throat which was only repaired by copious amounts of beer on Saturday night (regretted Sunday)
I hope so Ron in management terms he is still young and I think at times he still thinks like a player and not a manager but I have faith in him and if he does go which I hope he doesn't the we will see him managing higher than league 2 at some point in his career
Agree with the match bonus bit but don't think goal bonus is an issue 1 goal in 37 appearances for a player who has number 9 on his back if he was likely to score goals I would pay the goal bonus myself ps welcome to the forum
There was a good write up in todays Daily Telegraph which said the game was really a non event with Chesterfield not even having a shot.
