Every Boss/Manager, in any business, must earn respect as without it he/she's finished. So you're one of the squad and you witness : Poor players being brought in, loaned or otherwise. Players selected out of position. Different system every other week. And to cap it all you have to listen to his inane drivel. I'll bet they're laughing behind his back already and it's no good saying they shouldn't. They're young men with more money than sense, and most don't care a flying f**k. Cotterill hasn't a clue about management, last week he put an arm round them as the poor bu**ers were 'tired'. This week he's slaughtered them publicly. Make your mind up you Plank. This season, SOD started the slide and Cotterill will probably finish our fall into L2. So guys, our best hope (probably forlorn) : Cheer like f**k every game we watch and stick together at AG despite the idiot Cotterill.
I don't think its a case of "lost the dressing room", more a case of "what the hell do I do next to get this bunch of overated, overpaid, under-performing prima donnas playing football". I truley believe if he knew what he was up against then he would have said "thanks but no thanks".......not sure even the "special one" could help this bunch.
The trouble is with this scenario is when he calls them a "bunch of overated, overpaid, under-performing prima donnas" He may be entirely correct however as the players seem to hold all the power now they can look at the situation and think, Is this man liked and wanted by the fans? No, We don't think he is.! So **** him, lets get him out, it's easy. they'll sack him if they think He's 'lost the dressing room' and the fans wont care they don't want him anyway, that appears to pretty much be whats happened to all our managers back to GJ. We need a manager we can rally round and support for a meaningful amount of time.. Don't ask me who Cos I aint got a Scooby Doo.?
Depends on the reaction from players now. I didnt go yesterday but the game at Brentford was so poor I wondered if he would last another month. Then I went to Orient and the performance suggested he might have a bit about him. So at this point its a no, probably!!
Neil Warnock would have had em hanging by the rafters. I watched a footy documentry about him, christ when he was on fire the players shat themselves. These players are a disgrace to our club.
Didnt happen at QPR. They looked seriously poor, disorganised and lacking spirit under Warnock before he went. May have worked back in the day but players even at Citys level on several k a week to not play dont have to react to ranting and raving the money still comes in.
I didn't watch whatever programme it was. QPR were inspid under Warnock at the end so his passion didnt have the desired effect.
I would expect there are players there who have very little faith already in the Manager. Like fans they will look at the team sheet and formation and think "what is he up to now". That has to have an effect. Players playing out of position, lacking in confidence almost certainly will not perform at their best even if they are called Gow or Shelton. Steve Cotterill has to earn that respcet and confidence from the players and fans. The former soon.
Have we not been saying this about all the players we've had since GJ left? "bunch of overated, overpaid, under-performing prima donnas" Does our board appoint the managers that appoint these type of players? Or is it something about Bristol City that attract them? Or does other clubs have them, but employ the right manager to manage them? IMO, The biggest problem has been our priorities by the board, trying to get everything thing in place before putting the squad right in the respectful divisions. Last season, saying the priority was the academy, the foundations etc.....of course that's all bollocks if you're at the foot of the table on course for relegation....The club needs to be doing well to attract players into the academy. Since losing the bid for the world cup back in the day, the board has shown that they have no clue how to run a football club. Nearly every decision made since that time has been the wrong one.
Rather than "sacking the lot", it might be worth giving the players a different message. Perhaps, with Lansdown's approval, Cotterill can get something out of his team if he tells them that if we go down to League 2 they'll all be seeing out their contracts until the end, and that none of them will move on and find better teams. If the players want to drag us into the basement then we should let them resign their careers to the basement.
Maybe playing them in their proper positions two weeks running would help and not dropping players who have done ok e.g Pack. At the end of the day Cotteril has really bigged himself up about how good he is. Shut up and show it.
Aside from Sam Baldock none of them can say that they aren't exactly where they deserve to be right now and where they may be next season. There will be no queue of big clubs waiting to snap up our current collection of rubbish players at the end of the season, bar Sam.
