Ms Leibherr's interest in SFC has been questioned on this board in the recent past. Seeing her attending matches, and with her appointing a man who is already talking about longer term goals are surely encouraging signs. We have no idea whether they will continue to back an on-going drive for regular European qualification, but quite clearly there is no intention of selling the club this summer! I am happy with that.
Seems quite poorly translated. I'm sure he'd love to manage PSG considering he's a former player there, but there's no evidence they would have him, or that he would even want the job now.
Pretty much what I said in the off-topic thread. Ex-player refuses to rule out managing former club that he clearly has a lot of time for, who just so happen to be a big club with vast funds and European competition. Oh, and some top players.
We did. Doubt it had much to do with Krueger's motivational skills, though...the Canadian women always make the final (it's a two-team sport, effectively) and thanks to injuries and the utter collapse of the Russians, the men had a pretty easy path all things considered. If he's here to be a trusted liaison on the board, that's fine. I wouldn't expect nor do I want him to have any sort of active hand in the team, however, so his sideline as a motivational speaker really should not play into it.
"Jump at the chance to leave Southampton" - so tell me Express, where does he even get close to saying *anything* like that?
I understood the Woodward thing. Wilkinson's kicking coach had already successfully worked with some of our youngsters and I think we could have learned a lot about how to organise a proper coaching team. Don't forget this was still before the current acceptance of scientific coaching methods into football. At that time we were light years behind rugby. That it didn't work was as much down to Redknap's 'head in the sand' approach to the relationship as anything else. What could the great Harry Redknap learn from a rugby coach!!!!! That said I really don't understand this appointment. Krueger doesn't appear to be particularly expert in anything. Maybe, as an old family friend, he is something of a security blanket for KL.
A little more detail for those that haven't read it from news now. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/697927910?-11205:798
Wasn't Rupert Lowe a big hockey fan... oh dear... why do I not feel a positive vibe in all of this. In all seriousness, I really am not sure what he 'brings to the table'. Commercially, he has moved into a sport he knows nothing about. Motivational skills are being quoted - is it being proposed that somehow he will take on a role of motivating the team - is that not Poch's role? I am struggling to understand how his appointment will impact quality-wise on the current setup. I see it as another layer of management over Poch that seems superfluous and may actually cause internal friction - especially if his function is not properly defined (which - at present - has not been).
Being a trusted associate of Liebherr with a background in sporting performance and sporting organisations? Also, he's not really in a new layer of management. His role will see him as a non-executive, having no direct control or power over Mauricio in any way. Sure, there's potential for friction. But no more so than with any other director or trusted ally of the top dog, for example, Les Reed under Nicola Cortese.
I am not sure you can draw parallels between ice hockey and the EPL. Can you explain how you think 'sporting performance' will not impact on the job being undertaken by Poch? I would add that the whole funding setup and operation of a national ice hockey team is somewhat different to a professional football team; so how does that translate into being effective in a sporting organisation context?
Lots of people take sideways moves with job...most don't finish doing the job they started with...otherwise I'd still be packing crisps. Krueger is not taking over as our manager...he's taken a job on the board. The Newsnow article said it will mainly on the commercial side....for a start we need a decent shirt sponsor.
Like nature, football clubs should always be evolving. If this means bringing in fresh ideas to help the process, then it could be a wonderful appointment. Only time will tell. So let's fill our wine glasses with ice and chill out before hitting him with a stick and throwing our hats into the "rink."
If it doesn't work out, you can always set him adrift. please log in to view this image I'm not your buddy, friend I'm not your friend, guy I'm not your guy, buddy I'm not your buddy, friend I'm not your friend, guy......
Surely you don't need to ask that! Osvaldo can't wait to get back!
Pfft...the only time 'maple' should be mentioned in association with Aunt Jemima is when one of their delivery vehicles careens into a tree of that genus.
