So we won, as did every one above us, keeping the difference in the top four the same as it was before the games. But 5th and 6th place teams Spurs and Everton both lost. This means that we are now closer to top than 5th. We have 56 points, 4 points behind leaders Chelsea who have 60 points. Spurs in 5th have 50 points. We are 6 points ahead of them. We are in a good place right now.
Good weekend for us and we must look forward. To be fair there are some huge games ahead and lots of games to win/drop points. We need to hang on in there with those above us, and in their slip-stream we can hopefully pull away and get 4th. Marginal chance of something better.
We've opened up a nice cushion now but anything can happen. If we can maintain our 6 point lead over Spurs by the time we play then, we could effectively end them ...
Six points is a very nice cushion to have at this stage but its far from over. No disrespect to the other seven teams as we will still have to earn the points again them but we still have to play Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City and Spurs in the remaining eleven games. Beating Spurs is an absolute must IMO.
I'm pretty confident we can get 3rd. We have difficult fixtures but so do those above and below us. Most of those around us have to come to anfield.
I doubt that anyone thinks it's over, aren't we just pleased at how well we're doing? It may be self-evident, but as much as we will drop points before the end, so will everyone else. The best team in the league so far has only dropped four fewer than we have. We just have to keep going and not take our eye off the prize. But we all know that anyway.
And all that with a dodgy defence and a (sometimes) missing midfield. Incredible really. As for beating spurs. After watching their last 2 games, I just can't believe how dull they are. They have no flair, are slow all over the pitch and if we start like we have done recently, I can only see one outcome. Before they play us they face arsenal and Chelsea so might not be as vital as it could be. Everton look like they may have blown it. United...I don't know, maybe they will put a string of results together and challenge us. But we must look upwards as they will probably drag us along and if we are still 4/5 points behind in 5 games time then it really will be all to play for.
I cant see us slipping out of the top 4 now, even with the spurs, chavs and citeh to come to us yet... And after talking with one of my manc mates today the last thing he wants for his team is a 5th place finish...!!! Spurs losing today did nothing to make him think that utd will be any better next year when they are on Channel5 than out of Europe all together...!!! Sunday's will never be the same again...
Utd fans I know were going on about winning CL like it could happen so they'd get in again next season. They need a reet old slap if they think that'll happen.
That is my biggest worry. We do all this finish 4th and United go bloody win the CL and knock us down into EL
Sorry and by all means UIR can copy and paste this later.. but United winning CL?
