I dont post regularly because I just dont have the drive. I find that occasionally I get a bit of a passion for things but it never last long. I'll still hang around though and post every now and then.
I'm usually lurking and read most of the threads but don't usually have much to add (a bit like my contribution to this topic). However, its the only forum I like using. As for The News, I read the articles but steer clear of the comments. By the way, did anyone respond to the survey sent out? I'd urge anyone who wants to see the drums disappear to respond!
It's a shame you feel like this as I find your posts add a lot to this forum. Agree with you about the News comments. I've completed and submitted mine already. The questions around music were quite interesting. For me it's not the drums, which can be used to add to the singing and chanting, but the drummer/s who are incapable of anything other than bang/bang/bang and drown out any spontaneity. Compare that to the drummer of the Brazilian dancers back in April - he cottoned on immediately to the Portsmouth chant and kept it going for quite a while.
That's very kind of you and perhaps I will make the effort to post more. But maybe you might end up retracting your statement! As for the drums, sorry I was a bit short with my point as I completely agree with what you say. Its just unfortunate that (in my opinion) these detract from the atmosphere more often than not. They have their place, just not in the hands of those who currently use them at FP.
Well you must be doing something right because in your 72 posts you've accumulated over 3.5m rep points.
I've never seen that! But, if you had seen an android phone and what it can do, 25 years ago, imagine your reaction. Technology is endless except for reverse time travel. We can travel into the future theoretically, but at a cost.
I like stuff like this. A spaceman leaving today, travelling at 95% of the speed of light on a ten year trip for him, would find when he returned (2024 he thinks) it was the year 2046, give or take a month. where: t = time observed in the other reference frame t0 = time in observers own frame of reference (rest time) v = the speed of the moving object c = the speed of light in a vacuum so in our problem we will let v = .95c, t0 = 10 years and we will solve for t which is the time for us. t = 10/(1- (.95c)2/c2)1/2 t = 10/(1- .952)1/2 t = 10/ .312 t = 32 years Maybe Dev has got a job at NASA and, when we are in our dotage, he'll be back and in his prime, watching Pompey win the World club championship against Cruzeiro of Brazil.
It was sent by email to everyone on the PST and PCFC databases - do you get a regular email sent to you from the club? If not then you will need to get in touch with the club and get them to send you one. I got my email yesterday morning.
Okay - not one of my strengths I have to admit. A bit like Arthur Dent* when he crashed onto that planet and realised that although he used everything, like cars, radios etc. he never knew how they were actually made or worked - with the result that all he could do was make sandwiches. *Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy
I do regularly get e-mails from the club. Last ones I got were the weekly newsletter and an e-mail about the Cheltenham game, but none of them included any information about a survey.
I read those so many times. A few of Philip K Dick's novels aside, one of the best attempts to marry Sci Fi with humour. I love SF, from the Guide right through to the hard stuff, K Stanley Robinson, Alastair Reynolds etc;
There was no info about the survey prior to it being sent. I only found out about it during the week. Maybe have a look in your trash box as it comes from 'fansurvey' rather than PFC.
Must admit I've not been much of a reader for a number of years now, commuting and long hours put paid to that so I mainly get my sci-fi fix from TV or the radio nowadays, but mostly I enjoy the humour of SF.
Well, I wish Devo well. After the BBC 606 closed there was a period where moderating these boards became a real chore. We have now turfed out the idiots and it's quite a lot easier. I think when you end up checking the site even at work and in the wee small hours because you fear that things may kick off at any minute, it's not really much fun at all- and your wife might take a pretty dim view as well! If I could I would like to thank Devo for his sterling service and mutual support between the Saints/Pompey boards. He did a grand job as a Mod and frankly, without his efforts as a poster, things would have been a lot quiter. In here. SB3 as a mod? I'd sooner leave a fox in charge of the chickens!
I say chaps I would make a first class Mod , after all I have a wealth of experience in spotting Wums!. In my Mod capacity I could also access the Scummers board and bring my well known depth of knowledge on football and pony husbandry to the fore! I must run along to the Hammers board now and have a word with Trixter And, yes I am off to Brazil in the Summer I must be nuts
I'm so tempted to back your campaign SB3 - it's just the image of all other Mods doing the doolally jumping overboard thing that makes me refrain from being your campaign manager
