We have been in the prem a few seasons now and so far Bony is our most expensive purchace at around £12m. So how many more seasons do you think we will need to survive before we break the £20m barrier and sign even better players that can play to our style and enhance what we`ve got to take us beyond being a good mid table team ? After overheads and the boards frugalness etc.. are taken into account, the money coming in every season we stay up must be accumilating, so i think if things settle down with management and the players are happy to keep fighting as they are at the moment to keep us up then the summer of 2015 would be my guess ! Again assuming we can stay up of course. What do you recon ?
Last year we spent 15 million on players (do not consider those 5 million we got from Graham and got Shelvey for, as part of the summer budget in 2013). Jenkins is quite conservative when it comes to spending money. He will proberly see it this way "you do not have to spent money, if you don't need to". Guzman will proberly go and we get Ki back for "free". We proberly use Rangel for another season and start looking for a replacement in the summer 2015. Swansea will proberly pay around 5-6 million on a decent backup striker. Could see Swansea go for Caulker (central defender) if Cardiff went down. On the long run, a replacement for Williams. Caulker have earlier stated, he could be interested in returning to Swansea on a permanent basis. He will proberly cost around 6-7 million. If this happens I can see Swansea skip Amat - I have a strange feeling that Monk do not like him that much (but it is just my own feeling). So if no first team players leave, we will most likely not see any major signings. And no I do not hope Swansea is going to spent 20 million on óne player. No player Swansea buys should cost that much.
Given the amount of money BT are prepared to throw at the PL to get the tv rights etc, it might not be far off. However, I'd rather see the club spend 20million on financing the expansion of the stadium first. As Jok says, should we keep everybody in the summer barring JDG who is on loan, would we really need to sign any new players except another striker?
Saying that plastic, nobody forsaw Sky TV getting bitchslapped by BT either. Increase the stadium capacity to over 30,000, stay in the premiership for another 6-7 years, and then maybe who knows. It will all depend however on where we finish each season in the PL.
If the purchase would turn out as good as the Bony deal , I'm all in . A lot will depend on whose left when summer comes . If we lose alot of players , then we will rebuild cheaply , if we retain most , a big purchuse might well be on the cards.
Bale £85,000,000.00,or thereabouts. Rooney £300,000.00 per week. With that kind of insanity infesting the game,it could happen sooner, rather than later.
Not sure if we'd go in for Chaulker ,at that sort of money we've got both Amat and Bartley ,both young and Amat especially has shown promise but we don't know yet who'll be in charge in the summer .Ki ours to sell or keep and to be honest I'd rather keep De guzman than Ki who is a bit more creative .
Unfortunately It wont be too long and its ruining football. Can you imagine if there was a limit on what can be spent on players going through clubs and not agents that are not needed to decide the fee, Also there should be a cap on wages depending what division you are in, Can you imagine how much cheaper it would be for the fans because as far as im concerned it's not getting out of control it has got out of control, ...To pay a single player £300k/week is way way out of control and should never be allowed to take place and that's why fans are turning their backs on going to matches who would otherwise go.....Football supporters have dropped by half in the last 30 -40 years and if for example we had a cap of say £12 to watch a football match at the liberty we would need a stadium double of what we have got as there would be such a demand. A team like Man utd would fill a 120,000 stadium without any trouble. The way football is pricing fans out of the game is immoral and eventually it will kill the game for joe public in the end....I wont be paying anymore at the end of the season as its not worth the money anymore and i have better much more important things to spend my money on....Its only a game after all...
I agree with Dai. Finances in the sport are out of control, case in point is Cardiff whose debt has increased despite the money from this season... although their fans on the other board insist all is ok!
The same is happening with Welsh rugby, billionnaires are bankrolling clubs in France and our regions can't compete.
Some good points there and the money in the game is crazy, obscene even ! But for us to be in a position to even contemplate spending £20m + which at long last is a realistic and serious possibility is mind blowing after years of fighting to get to this point ! If handled carefully as the board have shown they can, then to bring in a high end player or more would really give the club and more importantly the fans a real boost and it will keep the feel good factor that we are striving ever onward and upward rather than trying to just stand still and settle on our laurels trying to be a survival orientated mid table team. And if Bony does go to city for £30m we may get our first £20m + player here in the summer !
I think we have enough to contend with currently in developing our club structure and facilities, I see our squad good enough to keep us up for 3 or 4 more seasons without too much spending, but at the end of the day it's all relative, we purchased Michu for £2.5 Million, if he was sold for £22.5 Million then that's some profit for the squad kitty, I hope we do not start spending that sort of money for 3 or 4 years yet, anyway I'm sure it would be bad for Huw's blood pressure!..................
I actually think we have reached our limit of a top half side and don't need to join the ranks of spending over the top for players, Paying £12 million for bony to me is over the top and i really think we can find players good enough in the £5 million and below bracket. the more you spend on a player the more you have to fork out in wages and i think a club is better served when all the players are on about the same money. the minute someone starts to get thousands of pounds more than you per week will show a little bit of resentment towards that player even if you don't mean too.. entrance fee's should stay within line of inflation or better still the lowest working mans wages which is the minimum wage...I have very strong views on the way football is heading and i feel for the young signets coming up behind us who will find it difficult to be a proper supporter and able to support the swans going to games...
Quite often big money is spent because a team hasn't scouted properly. 12m every so often isn't so bad when needing a striker, but otherwise I would be sticking down at 7-8million. For that sort of money hull replaced their strike force, signed huddlestone too. Cardiff got caulker. Villa signed bent eke. The higher end players, you can invest a lot of time and the suddenly Liverpool decide they want them and that's the end of that.
Wouldnt mind a Stourage or a player with suarez skills not suarez though he`s a ***! plus a couple more for strength in depth in mid and defence. Maybe one day soon and thats all we need to complete our team and start beating the top teams regularly instead of just punching above our weight aye ?
We may very well have our first 20 million £ player in Bony . Being frugal can be at the top end too .
And that's what we should be about...Buy sensible and within a budget and sell them on for double or treble what we paid and only then if we want too because we have enough money in the bank to do what is the best for us at last....Spending huge sums of money on a single player can be dangerous if that player is a flop. you lose money then...
