Exactly, if the shirt sponsor is only paying around £5-6M then why would any other sponsors put in anything close to that considering how much exposure a shirt sponsor gets compared to other platforms
I can't believe we're even discussing whether it could be true or not. It's just another lie. The club hates us and will say what they want to try and 'get one over' on us. Allam would rather we played in front of an empty stadium than 24,000 people with half of them singing CTID on 19:04. It's all about his ego.
I doubt very much the figure of 1,600 is correct. There are bound to be many more supporters who support CTWD who haven't put their money where their mouth is. Just as in politics, their vote won't count for the statisticians. That's a pity but I'd rather be in the official minority that makes an effort, although I'm sure that the majority (see survey/poll results which are free of charge) are in reality against the change application. You say you don't think it's "worth it", but as a pro (or unopposed to) name-changer why would you even consider if it were worth it?
The Allams own a £400m business, and he's risked a quarter of his wealth in a football club. Why on earth would he take business advice from CTWD? Quite simply, they know jack **** about business, as he's not a football fan he doesn't understand the 'heritage' associated. In his mind, rightly or wrongly, he's trying to progress the club and he sees that the name change is a way of doing so. Football fans are very fickle, look at the uproar when Barmby was sacked, but was it the right decision? Undoubtedly. To say that a club isn't a brand is also complete garbage, far too many traditionalists who won't move with the times. This same problem is occurring right throughout the FA and is why England never do any good in the major competitions.
I'm not sure I see the link between not wanting a club's name changed and the national team not doing well at major competitions?
Could you give some detailed examples of 'traditionalists who won't move with the times', and your suggested course of action that would have been better?
Didn't you notice that in 2008 every club in Spain changed their name? You silly man, how could you miss such a thing? It's clearly the reason they've won all the cups since then.
That's nonsense based on nothing other than what you want to believe. In fact reading through that whole post is bullshit. Sacking Barmby was ****ing moronic. Bruce got us promoted and he's a great manager, but we never got to see whether Barmby could have done the same with money to spend. If he wasn't good enough he never should have been put in charge. And who put him in charge? Allam of course. Taking the cheap option, when he was in his cost-cutting phase. This isn't complex business. It's Allam wanting to do something stupid which is more about being noticed and making sure everyone knows he's in charge than about business. He can't be stupid enough to really think this will bring in loads of money. He's already admitted he got this from reading the abstract of a paper in the Harvard Business Review on a completely different subject, and which didn't even say what he thought it did. He's got no idea what he's doing. People need to stop associating wealth with wisdom. He's made money doing one thing that most of us have no idea about. Now he's trying to do something he has no idea about and failing miserably. Losing more money than any previous City owner despite us having more income we don't have to work for than ever before. There's absolutely nothing to suggest he's someone we should just trust to get on with it, and an awful lot of evidence pointing to the opposite.
What the **** are you talking about? Not wanting to change a name of a club is why Spain/Brazil/Germany are better than us at football
There isn't a shirt sponsor out there who would pay anything near £5 million to sponsor our shirts .... you would find that there probably isn't a club out there even top 6 receiving anything like that amount
I beg to differ. http://www.sportingintelligence.com...rd-166m-into-top-flight-bank-accounts-200801/ They're not entirely accurate as our deal was less than £1M over 3 years, but they're not going to be out by much with the bigger clubs where the information is more widely available.
I don't know how many of those figures are accurate, but ours certainly isn't, we got £1m for three years, not for one.
