Good luck. I will not be touching them for the rest of the meeting as I do not bet when the going is soft because the fast horses get stuck in the mud and the slow plodders that are fit and have stamina come to the fore. The form book will be useless.

My advice to everyone else would be to look for horses with winning form on the soft and if you are at the track, check that your horse has dinner plates for feet and has a nice round action going to post.

Teolane has only run on fast ground. Mijhaar was second on soft ground on his debut as was Nathaniel whilst Genius Beast has won on it. Theyskens’ Theory has won in the soft but so has French raider Immortal Verse. Green Destiny has won on heavy ground and has a light weight.

A good win for Immortal Verse in the Coronation Stakes with underfoot conditions particularly favouring her; however, I am inclined to think that this may turn out to be definitive evidence that this year’s three-year-old mile fillies are not very good. The English, Irish and French Guineas all look suspect save Pouliches’ winner Golden Lilac.

Last time out Immortal Verse won the Prix de Sandringham (Group 2) at Chantilly, just beating Mixed Intention, both fillies having been well beaten in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas).
