City were so good in that first 5-6 weeks of the season when all our best players were fit*. Such a shame Brady and Aluko have missed so much time in what should have been their breakthrough year in the top flight.

(* Of the six I'm thinking of, I guess I should be thankful that four have stayed largely injury-free.)

We do seem to have a real issue with this. Somebody, somewhere is thinking with their heart rather than their head and if we do get relegated Id be asking some serious questions.

If he is still being troubled by the Hernia operation then I'd suggest it was the operation, not being 'rushed back' that's the issue. He's hardly been overplayed since his return to fitness.

This seems to be recurring thing on here with people saying that players are being rushed back form injury too soon and what are the medical team doing. I have not seen any evidence of this happening so not sure why it keeps being repeated as fact.

Didnt Brady have his op, come back for one game at Everton, and then break down again with the same injury?
Didnt something similar happen with Aluko too?

I posted this the other day, all of these players have been injured, played another game or played on and then missed games with the exact same injury since Bruce came in:

    Evans
    Rosenior
    Dudgeon (twice)
    Fryatt
    Aluko (twice)
    Brady (twice now)
    Chester

That amount of players in such a short period of time is far more than should be happening, whether its coincidence, bad medical advice or players being rushed back its happened too often.

Fryatt and Aluko are both achillies injuries. One of the worst and most difficult to treat. You can recover short term then it happens again. It will happen to Aluko again no doubt. All you can do is get them recovered and err on the side of caution. Which is what has happened with them both. But as its an area with a poor blood supply then outcome is always a difficult one to predict without resorting to surgery. Which is what happened to Fryatt ultimately.

We tried with Fryatt to manage it without an op. He had about 4 months out with rehab (off the top of my head) and then had to go for the op anyway thus missing an entire season. If he'd had the op when he broke down against Rovverham (after playing a full 90 and extra time when he was carrying an injury pre match) he wouldve been back for the end of season run in.

I thought they tried Fryatt with rest and steroid injections first? Standard line of treatment. Why would they have rushed in for immediate surgery? Same can be said of Aluko. Do they just jump in now and get him an op so would miss the rest of the season and probaly pre-season as about 6 months out with it. It's a difficult area to treat. The surgeons don't want to operate unless they have to, ie have tried other things first. It's pretty standard. I appreciate it's frustrating for us fans though.

Dudgeon as far as I am aware is quite a rare injury. So not sure what could have been done any differently with him. If anything.

Brady has never looked right to me in the games he has featured in since his initial injury. Might as well lose him for the season and let him get it sorted once and for all

Fryatt played injured against Rotherham, they tried to treat without an op and then sent him for an op after he returned to training, same with sone.

Dudegon got injured away at Leicester, missed a game or two and played - Barnsley at home if memory serves. He then broke down and his knee went. He's since some a full preseason and played games and it's gone again.

Dudgeons knee op could take up to 2 years to fully heal if I remember correctly. Do they keep him out for 2 years then? Not easy to manage these tricky injuries sometimes. Especially with a smaller squad like ours.

If I remember rightly though, Paul McShane wasn't supposed to be back for us at the end of last season, yet he was and ultimately scored a massive goal in the Cardiff game.

However I also remember this time were Sunderland didn't have a recognized striker fit, so Bruce opted to put Henderson up front as a false number 9.

If we have rushed players back, it's only because I feel we desperately need them. Many times I have seen a decline in the quality of our attacking play when Brady and Aluko haven't been playing, so desperation could be a factor.

I agree when he has been on the field he didn't want to get stuck in and he never tried to beat a man on the outside as he used to do.This turn of events could be a blessing in disguise ,making sure SB doesn't risk him again both for Brady's benefit and the team .A suspect player is always likely to be carried off or taken off without contributing thus wasting a substitution which might be critical late in a game.
