Swansea, Ull, West Ham, Villa etc, ever expect to compete with the big lads?

After reading the Bardo/Colback thread, and talks of 30k ish being over board, then you have this.

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd striker agrees new £300k per week deal

Yes the cup competition anything can happen, but over a whole season, money talks.

    The game is screwed.

Only way it can be done these days is the Man City way.
Without massive external investment (something FIFA want to outlaw) no club will ever be able to join the elite.
All clubs like ours will ever get is the odd cup now and again.

The USA model is the way forward, where a common wage structure is in place, and all top league clubs have similar budgets..The fact that Man U have agreed to pay Rooney £300, 000 a week, tells me that the lunatics have most certainly taken over the asylum..

So man u are crippled with debt now shelling out this much a week on a player. Are the fair play rules going to exclude them? <confused>

How many walks of life do the managed get paid more than the person who manages them?!

Bri - whilst I agree unfortunately they do make enough to cover the fair play rules from their external resources which bring money into the club - no other club has as high an annual turnover as United and this puts them on the front foot in the fair play league (apparently according to someone "ITK" on a radio phone in on five live the other week)

    Damn good question really.

Another one could be music, but not in the same percentage as Football.

I am sickened for the game I love with the news that Potato Heed is to get a deal worth £86m to him over 5.5 years. In such austere and financially testing times we live in today where we are constantly told we are 'all in it together', quite clearly we are not.

This is an incredibly obscene amount of money to pay a footballer and for me represents another nail in my love affair with football.

In a sales environment, its often very common to see Reps at the 'coal face' easily earning more than the Sales Managers who manage them, as they are able to earn big commissions whereas the management positions are about kudos and greasy pole climbing and often don't include commissions but bonuses for the team hitting set targets.

He ain't worth it if you ask me. Can be brilliant and there's no denying his talent, but he is a potato-headed git who behaves like a baboon half the time.

£300k/week = £15.6M/year and that is a ridiculous amount to drop on a player who is a couple of notches below the Messi/Ronaldo level.

Keep going, he's not even on the same level as Lewandowski, Falcou, Cavani, Van Persie, Aguero or Suarez.

Benzema Higuian Diego Costa, Tevez Ballotelli Reus Kiesling Mandzukic Sturridge Negredo all better imo.

    Possible, but very difficult

Do Spurs have any players on that kind of money per week? Bale was on 100k a week, but he is long gone

It will come down to academy players, a good buy/sell policy and once playing in Europe building up a global brand. A good brand and successive top 6 finish = better sponsorship deals

Our biggest disadvantage will be the local economy, as we can't increase our revenue by increasing the ticket prices to big club levels.

Why would someone want £86m? WTF can you do with it? There must come a point when someone has too much money left when there's nothing else to buy. It seems like sheer f*****g greed to me.
