Peterborough's attempts to pull off a double swoop on MK Dons have been rebuffed by the League One side, the BBC reports. Posh made bids for striker Sam Baldock and midfielder Stephen Gleeson. The Dons announced that they had rejected the bids. This was later confirmed by Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony who said his club had launched a double bid and that it had been knocked back. He added that the club would now pursue other players and cool their interest in Baldock and Gleeson. He wrote on Twitter: "I am never happy at failing to land certain targets but we respect MK's decision and move on. "It's not the end of world and we will go for other options now. "The bid would have smashed both clubs' transfer records for buying and selling a player. We will now move on to other targets as this double bid was final offer. "I wish Pete [Winkelman, Dons chairman] and their gaffer all the best in aiming for promotion next year." It is the second time Posh have attempted to bring 22-year-old frontman Baldock to London Road. They made a £600,000 offer for him at the start of the month, which was rejected. The improved offer, including additional money for Irishman Gleeson, still didn't convince the Dons to sell. Gleeson was sent-off against his suitors in last season's League One play-off first-leg, but faced them again in the second-leg after his red card was rescinded.
No loss either of them. We want (funds permitting) players from a higher level than league as that was our mistake last time, playing league one players in a championship, we all know it didn't work
MK Dons are fools for turning down the bid for Baldock, but I can understand wanting to hold onto Gleeson. At League One level that kind of money could buy you a real striking talent with 20+ goals in him. They should have sold.
Buying young and hungry league 1 is exactly what you should do - worked for us...you chairman is a bot of a strange one - imagine conducting your transfer moves with the of twitter - made himself look a bit of an ass really...don't get me started on Barry fry and dirty lie...
I think you'll find a third offer was made and accepted by the Dons. Baldock came to Posh and met with DF but DF called it off. Nothing to do with DMac. Apparantly Baldock didn't want to check out the training ground amoung other things. We don't want a player that's only half interested. Gutsy move by DF after the long chase. Well backed by DMac.
I don't think this any loss what so ever. Baldocks average is roughly 1 goal in 3 games and thats not good enough for a million pound striker. He can stay with Franchise Plastic FC run by Pete ****leman in league one next season and the one after that. Cant see franchise getting promoted even via the play offs with teams like Charlton, both Sheffield's, Huddersfield, Preston to name but a few.
