Are we seeing the emergence of a two-tier legal system in which football fans are treated as a class apart? Martin Cloake and solicitor Darren White examine the evidence and ask whether we should have cause for concern. The perception of football supporters primarily as a problem to be dealt with is now a thing of the past, we are told. And itâs comforting to believe that is true. Unfortunately, while organised supporters have been able to articulate and embed some better practices, there is still plenty of evidence of football fans being treated primarily as a problem. This matters. It matters because singling out and demonising a particular set of people â prejudice in everyday parlance â is just plain wrong. But it also matters because of the impact on the rest of society. Those of us who grew up in the 1980s and who went to the football but were also politically active soon understood how techniques honed against football supporters were also used on organised labour. A number of legal experts dealing with the area have spoken of the emergence of a two-tier legal system in which football fans are treated as a class apart from everyone else. Key to this is the ability to demonise football fans, something that has been done by mobilising the traditional fear of the âhooliganâ that has run through the establishment and been used as an excuse for social control for centuries. It's ironic that the media that fueled most of the bull **** about hooliganism is where we need to look to for a more honest image to be shown.
What a load of lefty liberal bollocks. There is no prejudice, there's no two tier system, football fans are treated identically to anyone else. Who thought of this ****
This is something that pisses me right off and has done for ages. If it was an ethnic group that was treated so poorly it'd be a national disgrace but no one cares about the football fans except football fans. I'm pretty sure there's a law that the police can arrest a football fan on suspicion (no evidence required) of being a hooligan but the same isn't true of a suspected terrorist (without evidence). Madness.
Everyone’s equal in the eyes of the law – unless you are a football fan or a conservative councillor http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Coun...-driving-ban/story-20648873-detail/story.html
I was banned for 6 months after totting up 12 points. I went to court to and showed it was not possible to get to my work 25 miles away, on public transport and it would therefore cause me undue hardship. The magistrates decided that although they had some sympathy for my case they decided I should have known that was the case when I committed the offences. Why is this Tory councillor any different? Oops, I think I answered my own question there.
With respect they were right in your case. No one's job is more important than lives. I find it disgusting that this guy got away with it on those grounds.
Can you guarantee me this is a lawyers site!!! My heads filling with horrible images you dirty pervert.........
