We would surely be better offloading him now rather than in the summer...

Russian club could turn to Papiss Cisse after striker deal collapsed
    18 Feb 2014 07:23

Newcastle could be tempted one last time to off-load Papiss Cisse before the end of this season.

Reports in Russia last night claimed Rubin Kazan were at long last prepared to make a bid for the player after their deal to sign PSV Eindhoven striker, Tim Matavz, collapsed at the weekend. The Russians, who can still sign players up until February 27, remain determined to land a goalscorer this month.

Cisse has been a long-time target and it is believed Rubin Kazan would be prepared to fork out close to £9m for the player.

That would match what Newcastle paid for the 28-year-old two years ago.

And given the Senegalese striker’s lack of form, with no real sign of it improving, any fee close to that sum would be tempting for the club.

Rubin Kazan believed they had agreed a deal to sign Matavz, who even completed a medical. But a knee problem, among other things, was to blame for the transfer falling through at the last minute. However, the Russians have money to spend and this is why Cisse, who has been linked with all manner of clubs, seems to be back on the radar.

Rubin coach Rinat Bilyaletdinov, when asked about the Matavz deal, said: “On the question of the transition of Matavz, the clubs had not fully agreed. The fact is, there were certain problems in the negotiations.

“As for the footballer’s injury, we focus on the conclusion of the German doctors in Munich.

“However, I cannot give an evaluation of the medical diagnosis as it is the prerogative of Rubin’s medical staff. Therefore, purchasing a striker is still on the agenda.”

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, whose job is not under immediate pressure despite weekend reports to the contrary, has given Cisse the final 12 games of this season to prove he’s worthy of staying at the club.

Cisse’s popularity among the majority of supporters has never seriously waned during his fallow period. But with Luuk De Jong and Loic Remy, who is available again after suspension for Aston Villa’s visit on Sunday, sure to get a run-out for the rest of the season, Cisse’s chances will be limited.

Sell ASAP! 9m? The Russians need to stay off the vodka. No brainer.

He'd be a fool not to take that tbh, think he'd do well in Russia as long as he doesn't get murdered by nationalist idiots.

So if Cisse goes that will leave us by the end of the season with a loanee in De Jong, Remy who will def be off and Shola who is wretched **** and thankfully will **** off. Doesn't leave us with much options does it?

Oh but I'm sure we will strengthen the team come summer and spend the necessary 50+ million to rebuild the team as other players are sure to leave...yeah right.

We could concieveably have no first team strikers in the summer and need to start again.

There's a lad in the lower leagues who looks quite promising for the future. I think he's called something like Ranger. He and Shola (if we can somehow convince him to stay on another contract) would make a good partnership.

Very true but not a reason to keep another **** striker rather than take 9m.

I too believe we'll skint our way through the summer. However having either Shola or Cisse in the squad is unpalatable. His time here is done, he isn't gonna turn it around. Its Torres all over and we need to take the money while it is still on offer even if only to make fat mike a bit closer to the exit door (have my doubts about that while he is turning profits)

The problem is 9 million is good money and I wouldn't be totally against it IF the money will be reinvested but we all know it won't be.

You see this season is coming to a close and we most likely finish whereabouts we are now. Next season I'm really worried about mate. The amount of rebuilding that needs to be done is tremendous and if its not done I envisage a relegation battle next season.
