http://www1.skysports.com/football/...y-and-ray-wilkins-leave-their-roles-at-fulham Poor Alan Curbishley waited for an opportunity and was out of the game for nearly 4 years, takes his first position in December and is sacked before February is out? You have to say thats ****ing unlucky mind. On a more serious note, just where does that leave him now in football? Touted for many a job over the past 3 seasons, and for us by some in the last 2 or 3 appointments, he was totally overlooked when it became obvious Rene Madeanarseofit just wasn't a manager and they needed a managerial appointment to step in to the breach? Instead of just looking to their left at an employee you'd imagine has all the credentials, they turned to another barn pot of a manager who is as likely to rip that dressing room apart as he is unite it in the run in this season. Is Curbs, once fancied as a future England coach not so long ago, totally out of the loop now for another managers job? I thought he did a decent job in the past and always seemed like a knowledgeable bloke who would do a decent job at a middle of the road club like Fulham but he has been sacked after less than 3 months? Surely he would have more of a grasp of the task ahead and the English game than looney Magath? Is it a case of home grown managers being overlooked for the foreign managers again or is Curbs just not up to the job these days?
"Poor Alan Curbishley." Poor? He's made a fortune out of never threatening to win a thing in his entire career as a manager or player .......... yep, my heart bleeds.
I meant in a professional fashion rather than financial Smug. He isn't a terrible manager imo and deserves a chance over some of the foreign dross that gets the nod these days.
As much of a chance as say a René Meulensteen? My point being is that English managers and his record at Charlton was not that bad mate, get overlooked mostly now. I'm not saying he is a world beater but for a club like Fulham he wouldn't have been so terrible as Meulensteen for instance or even Ole Gunnar at Cardiff, who seems hell bent on proving you correct very quickly?
I reckon it simply comes down to Fulham having a look at what Sunderland did last year and thinking they want a bit of the same. Bring in a crackpot, get the di Canio effect, survive and then have another look in the summer. To be fair to the guy his record in Germany is nothing short of outstanding in terms of results, his tenure's always seem to end prematurely though.
He wasn't brilliant when he was in the game, spent too long out of it. Going to be tough for him to get anything close to a Premier League job imo. Or he's the next Cockney Boss at Newcastle
He has done okay as a manager at Charlton and West Ham. Spent far too long out of the game though imo, if he wants a job he'll need to drop down to the championship
