    I'd actually welcome this.
Him and Pards got on and whilst he was in charge we moved quickly in the transfer market.
    Thoughts?

    http://www.nufcblog.com/2014/02/16/reports-newcastle-about-to-appoint-new-chief-executive/?

There is news today in a couple of papers that Derek LLambias will be coming back as the Chief Executive at Newcastle United to replace the departed Joe Kinnear, who was an absolute disaster in the job, and was expected to be an absolute disaster in the job when he was hired last June.

Derek LLambias (also known as Llambeezi) and Mike Ashley

So much for Mike Ashley’s abilities to pick a top men for the top job at the club.

Derek LLambias was appointed as Managing Director at Newcastle in May of 2008, and took over from departing Chairman Chris Mort who had done a good job for around 10 months in getting things sorted out for Mike Ashley who bought the club in June 2007.

One of the things Chris found very quickly was that Newcastle owed 100M in debts, something Ashley didn’t know about because the due diligence was carried out very quickly.

Derek lasted for over five years in that position before Joe Kinnear came in and vetoed the deal for FC Twente’s center-back Douglas, that Derek had a lined up for last summer.

Derek resigned that day after he announced Kinnear’s appointment which Joe had already told the wold in that disastrous talkSPORT interview.

In the interview he talked about players like Yohan Kebab, Hatem Ben Afra and Shola Amamobi at Newcastle and an executive he called Llambeezi, and we had thought Charles Insomnia was a funny mispronunciation of a player who left Newcastle in January 2009, probably in protest of then manager Joe Kinnear.

Didn’t Mike Ashley then know – just how disastrous his appointment would turn out to be?

Derek will not be a popular appointment with Newcastle fans, but he did improve in the job over five years, and he was aggressive in the transfer market and did manage to sign players permanently at the club, including the five Frenchmen in January last year.

Derek could even look good, because he’s so much better than the previous man in the job.

In that sense it would even be good news if Derek is appointed – well maybe not. :D

But we do need somebody who is aggressive in soon, and he can then immediately start working on transfer targets for the summer, and hopefully sign some players on pre-contract agreements before June rolls around.

If Ashley is selling in the summer, then I don't get why Derek would join. Either:

    1. Ashley is staying put, or
    2. this rumour is rubbish, or
    3. It's part of a bigger grand plan they've hatched up - which fills me with dread

As we have not spent anything in the last 2 transfer windows perhaps Ashley is going to take back his loan he gave us thus making the club a more attractive proposition for a new buyer.

    Chris Mort.
A lawyer from Freshfields in London.
He used to walk around the stadium on the concorse talking to folk before the game. A top bloke but didn't really make his mark transfer wise.
Dekka was a fast mover in the transfer market... although when he embarassed us by losing the infamous bet and streaking across an empty SJP he wasn't that quick.

Probably a case of.... we need a chief exec type as most big companies do.... get Dekka in for a 6 months 'swan song' as he was kind of successful when he was here.... then flog it...

Again to the Ashley out brigade I watched a neutral discusion this morning on this issue, some real sense in this, Ashley is at heart an English businessman, he is cutthroat but ultimately successful at what he does, he makes significant money and has done so in a tough economic climate recently. When everyone is screaming for him to leave remember this, there are very few if any mega rich prospective owners out there wanting to buy a mid division Premier League club at this time, the sort of buyers that may come foward are gonna be the Venkys, the guy battling around Leeds and rather more dubious characters, the Football Leagues and the Premiership are not exactly hot on their fit and proper person criteria. Ashley doesn't have to care to whom he sells, all that matters is can they buy him out, the long term future of the club doesn't come into this, Ashley has a multitude of faults but he is a known if destabilising devil, do we really want to leap into the abyss along with Portsmouth et al.

I'm not sure Ashley will go anywhere. Quite a profitable business venture at present.

There are some backwards steps (like the ones that Portsmouth have taken) that there is very little chance of coming back from. This isn't a defence of Ashley, just saying that any club who gets the type of lunatics who bought Portsmouth in charge stands a very real chance of disappearing into obscurity for a very long time. There are not a whole lot of potential good owners out there.
