Jack Charlton <music> were all part of Jackies army We're all off to Italy *And we'l really shake em up When we win the world cup* Cos Ireland are the greatest football team</music> *changed to "and we could have won the cup, but Schillaci ****ed it up" after the quarter final
Paisley came on the pitch at Anfield, pre-match, for some presentation or trophy .............. he was roundly cheered and waved in general to all 4 sides of the ground. During the presentation the Sunderland fans set up a continuous chant of 'Georrrrrdiess' and kept it up until the little fella could hold out no longer. He walked proudly across to our corner and looked up at us. He raised his arms and applauded us while the Liverpool supporters fell silent and watched with their mouths open. IIRC we lost 1-0 to a Souness goal but it's something I've never forgotten in all those years.
brown came on the pitch after some match or so, we'd just stayed up for a small club which spent the majority years in the duldums was the biggest achievement of any club he began to sing and i'll never forget that in all my limited years
A more obscure Geordie manager was Stan Seymour at NUFC who built the team(s) that brought them into Div1 and won 3 FA cups over an 8 year period in the '40s and 50s. Home town team and manager which is worthy of mention. Just wish Tom Cowie had taken Cloughie on when he all but put an application for the vacant job in a newspaper article.
Bobby will always have a very special place in my heart, and had amazing results in Europe, but for winning the big one when it was all about being champions then I can't see past Paisley or Clough, with Clough edging it for bringing Notts Forest up from nowhere. He probably wouldn't last 5 minutes in today's game - which says far more about the way the game has gone than him. A real character.
