Hope everyone affected stays safe & dry. This property looks like an oasis surrounded by flood waters, but at least they still have their football field to play on. please log in to view this image Moorland landowner Sam Notaro is doing his best to fight the floodwaters by building a barrier around his recently-built home.
You don't live in Garrick Close do you Stainesy? Just watching C4 News and Jon Snow interviewing slightly grumpy flooded residents there Looks and sounds grim mate. Hope its all ok for you Hang on........... Paul Daniels has just appeared on someone's lawn. In waders. Slightly surreal
Thats only a 2 min drive away mate, just near Staines FC (Which is underwater). Was a bit worried this afternoon during the storm 'cos the drains at the top of my road were spewing up water and flooded the top of the road, but my Mrs says its cleared a bit thank f***. Managed to contact my mates mum yesterday who was in the process of being rescued by rubber dinghy as her place in Walton is almost underwater and my mate called me last night from Colnbrook to say 'The Sun@ were giving out free sandbags.......all very surreal to see this all happening in my own back yard
Good luck Staines mate thinking if you and everyone who face or are in such devastation . Barbel fishing could be good when the waters recede ... try a big spicy bait
Hope you stay dry mate. Here in Oxfordshire, along the Thames, it's bloody unbelievable. Never seen such a sustained period of flooding here and I've lived in the area for the last 45 years! Field after field is under water and the areas alongside the river are huge lakes. Lots of people's houses flooded and many, many gardens completely submerged. The wildlife is suffering hugely too. The main road in our village was like a river on Saturday night and was on the way to the same again this afternoon. Latest thinking is that the floods could stay for months in some areas, even if the rain stops now, which it isn't going to do!
Just down the Road from you Staines - its not good and loads more rain predicted Have never seen Old Father Thames so high in the City either - when you look at this helicopter footage, you can see why the area's after Hampton Court are allowed to flood 1st

Hope you are still dry Stainsey. This weather is nuts. I'm in the US in -20C temperatures and its been like it for weeks. You can feels your ears getting frostbite within 300 yards of walking. Massive storm hitting the south east, an inch of solid ice in Atlanta of all places, 3,000 flights already cancelled for tomorrow and I'm not optimistic about getting my flight home on Friday. Apparently all due to something in the Pacific f**king up the jet stream. When I get home I'm expecting a landscape out of Will Self's "Book of Dave" - Hampstead Heath an island and the next land the Chilterns.
I'll second what Queens and other the other good people of Brisbane, experienced. Can only hope you folk don't suffer to the same extent .............. Here's thinking of you.
Where does the UK government stand on aid in a situation like this? It appears to be a disaster zone over there, is the UK eligible for some kind of EU or International aid. Especially the most vulnerable?, I'm interested considering the amount of money the UK shells out each year in International aid.
Thankfully we have had a quiet day, the lull before the next storm hits us tomorrow. There has been the gentle hum of chainsaws everywhere cutting up the fallen trees, there should be an aboundence of firewood next winter...... Our local airport which is about 5 kms from us measured a gust yesterday at 150kms/h about 95 mph in old money.....Also just off theCork coast a wave was measured at 25 metres (80 feet or so).....scarry. Our only inconvenience at the moment is that the storms knocked out the water pumping stations so we have no mains water, but that is only a minor inconvenience compared to what folk along the Thames are having to put up with..... Stay safe everyone....
Good job our Sunday match against my local team the Waitrose trolly boys (fake hoops) is at HQ and not away. The retail park next to the stadium was flooded this week, click on the link for pics http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/local-news/pictures-reading-gate-retail-park-6691280 PS hope nobody has been to badly affected on here.
