I'd argue they're only one in a number of indicators and only for longer runs of games. I've seen games where the stats and pundits show one side totally dominated but lost two nil. The struggling side would have a better "form" than the good side that lost. Sure, that should balance out of the longer runs, but in this league, it's possible to have five or six games against stronger teams, that can play crap but have individuals that can turn games, so good 'form' counted for little. What's the best way of judging?
Trying to predict football results on form is like trying to win the lottery with a system. Sure, you can get a rough idea of what might happen, but there is too much unpredictability to guarantee anything. How many games this season, not just ours, have gone against predicted results?
Although those stats are fact, I dont know anyone who uses the last 12 games to show form. That's very nearly a third of the season. Unless of course they're trying to make the stats fit a certain point they're aiming to make. The most common indicator of form is 6 games. And back to the point, yes I do see purely results as an indicator of form. The aim of the game of football is to score more goals than the opposition. I dont care how well a team plays, how many shots they have, how much possession etc. A team could have 99 shots on goal and the other team 1 and if those 99 shots dont go in and that 1 shot does then they have achieved the aim of the game better.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'm not sure how to word my reply properly. The best I can say is, is the result a reflection of the outcome rather than the probability? If a team has a goal scorer that can score 100% of the time if the ball gets to him i the right place, but that only happens once a game, is that an indication of a team in better form than a side that's had a dozen shots a game from different players, all saved by top six teams defence? Which one would be the better bet in their next game?
You don't mention our position in the form table, we appear to be going in the RIGHT direction, as opposed to the tigers WRONG direction. I even allow for you narrowly beating a team of ten ! Any advice for us against Southampton this weekend ? Don't want to be loosing that one now, do we !
Form is one thing, but if we can't win at least 3 matches before the end of the season, then we don't deserve to stay up.
I don't understand why our board is being invaded by sunderland fans atm, but there have been plenty of times this season were we have played well, really well but haven't got anything from. I think really form is irrelevant, the only way to judge a team is by looking at the table really. In regards to the angry mackems, fair play to you, Poyet has come in and you are obviously doing a lot better now than earlier on under di canio. But really you should bugger off back to your own board.
They're very good and you're not, so my advice would be to just give them the points and save yourself a long wasted journey.
I doubt he's a Sunderland fan. Just like that idiot who can't spell Calamity, isn't really a city fan.
