Anyone recommend a health centre in Hull? I won't mention where I'm registered, but I'm looking to change my GP, mainly because of the piss poor attitude of the staff right through the system up to the production line Drs.

I just want one that actually bothers to listen to what you're saying and treats that ailment.

I get the impression they can get more money from benefit claiming patients and us workers are a burden.

Rules are the same at all centres.

Went in Autumn with three different unrelated minor ailments.

Got to the end of discussing the first one and the doc more or less says 'Time's up. Next please. I have quotas to meet'.

'I think not' I more or less said.

Seems they budget about 7 mins per patient to size up what's wrong and get you out the way, and I was more or less told 'you'll have to speak to the receptionist to book another appointment'

    GTF.

"I'm here now. Let's 'ave it."

Surely you know the routine by now DMD? A round of anti-biotics and stay away from those ladies you've been spending time with.

I can't even seem to get an appointment. They say they'll ring back, but don't. When I ring them to chase it up, they tell me a different set of events from the notes each time to justify the none call, then get arsey when I point out the errors in their version.

I'v gone up the line to some sort of manager type, but they're more defensive than the others, but worse at lying.

Surely it's like the chicken pox parties for kids, where you need a bit of infection to build an immunity?

Why not try the tried and trusted 'queue jumper' routine?

You just turn up and say you're really in pain and need an appointment more or less immediately.

    It works.

East Park practice. Can't really fault them. Can get an appt same day usually. Never have a problem getting a prescription.

It involves getting a signature. I anticipated a problem so sort of tried a short cut, but the Quack wasn't playing. I'm not trying a fast one, they just seem unable to listen and talk politely, everything revolves around them justifying incompetence rather than just booking me in. I don't care if it's next week. Because they need to put a stamp on a form, they're bulling up what is effectively a blood pressure test.

They just keep hiding behind contradictory versions of events, claiming the Doctors away, then saying they've spoken to them, all the time being really snotty.

Cheers Charlie, I'll sound them out tomorrow. I don't use the Dr very often, but when I have, I don't think they've ever managed to diagnose anything, they just fob you off as quick as they can.

I usually diagnose myself then go to get them to confirm it and they then send me for tests etc. I always make a point of listening to my patients at work. If more Drs just listened they can find out much quicker what the problem is.

Very true, and over time, that would reduce the queues. It's an ill health service anyway. It's why they struggle with a healthy person. I need a form signing that ask a few questions relating to my health history...there's not even anything to diagnose. "Have I a history of diabetes or heart disease" (not have I got either) that's it, and they charge for it.

    Best advice

Doc Morrissey: Do you find you can't finish the crossword like you used to, nasty taste in the mouth in the mornings, can't stop thinking about sex, can't start doing anything about sex, wake up with a sweat in the mornings, keep falling asleep during '"Play For Today"?
Reginald Perrin: That's extraordinary, Doc! That's exactly how I've been feeling.
Doc Morrissey: So have I. I wonder what it is? Take two aspirins.

Sounds simple enough to sort out. If they would have got it done instead of all the time talking about it they could move on and do other work. Too many jobsworths. Trouble with the health setvice is it's a victim of its own success. Was never designed to offer what it does today. It has its bad bits but the good bits do outweigh them thankfully. But I know it can be frustrating for patients sometimes.

I concur with this Charlie, my son has had headaches for a while, and he went to see the GP who referred him to a specialist. When he saw the specialist my son said he thought it was his sinuses, he was told it wasn't. After 2 years of being pushed from pillar to post to various experts, finally you guessed it, it was his sinuses.

Mine's good, you can normally get an appointment the same day if you tell them it's urgent and they have online repeat prescriptions etc, though I doubt it's very practical for Dutch to register in South Cave.

I work in the NHS DMD and a lot of people seem to be using the walk-in centre at Storey Street rather than own GP. Seems to have a pretty good reputation from people I've come across.
