About time we won at Wembley again. If we do, we can all hoist one in honour of the '73 team and stop looking backwards!

Ian Porterfield is one of those ex playing legends that is handed down from generation to generation. FA Cup winning goal scorer. It doesn't get any better than that imo. His name is immortalised forever in Sunderland and FA Cup history. ASk any proper fan anywhere in the country who won the 1973 FA Cup Final and they will know. More remarkable is the fact they will tell you Ian scored the winner and also that Monty made the greatest save Wembley ever saw as well.

When I was a lad, winning the FA Cup was the ultimate every season for fans and far more important than winning the league was. Quite remarkable and sad to think how far down the pecking order it has become. Luckily, for us, its still a huge competition this season as is the League Cup of course.

I wonder which one of the current lot will be talked about in 40 or 50 years time as the goal scoring hero and cup final winner from the 2014 crop. I think Borini is going to score the winning goal personally.

Even though i was born 6 years later, seeing bob stokoe run on the pitch almost brings a tear to the eye! As does Montys save! just watched it a dozen times and still cant believe he saved it. Most keepers wouldnt have bothered reacting after the first save, nevermind save the second effort! i mean, how quickly did he manage to get back up!? Shear adrenaline saved that one i think!! Fantastic! HAWARRRRR THE LADS!

Need to get the dvd as I don't have a vhs anymore. Haven't seen it in ages. I've got it on 8mm but no projector. That save is something else.
