Sure it's a good atmospheric ground and I've been up there once this season already. But unfortunately they play rugby there!
'Bristol City has followed me all over the world' And they will me but I just don't want to witness first hand watching City, probably losing in L2. I don't get pissed off when they lose if I'm not there. Each season the ST and Car Park costs well over £500 and I've wasted thousands sponsoring City over the years. But really, saving money is just an excuse, I'm fed up to the back teeth with every bit of hope draining away. It's not fun going to the Gate these days. SOD crushed the life from BCFC and fans - and I fear where Cotterill's taking us. The trouble with Cotterill is his team tinkering, signings and ridiculous comments - he truly is daft as a brush. I can barely listen to him. Relegation again - Enough will be enough.
Living in Gloucester for a few years in my younger days I used to go there and quite a few times since. But I lost interest in club rugby about 10 years ago. No idea why but I still enjoy the internationals probably have the radio on tomorrow watching the rugby. Believe it or not I was a coach in rugby teaching kids, I took my boys when they was younger and me and my ex wife into coaching? The boys lost interest by the time I finished and I split up with her so I gave up and just enjoyed my midlife crises.
'Crises' - have you had multiple mid-life ones then RoD?! I haven't had one yet and I'm only a year younger than you! I played nothing but rugby at Bristol Grammar until I was 16, despite playing football outside of school and following the Gas. I then started playing rugby until I was about 23 for a pub side called the Loafers - we played out of the Three Sugar Loaves pub at the bottom of Christmas Steps. I was scrum half and kept getting the **** kicked out of me by opposition flankers, which goes with the territory. One day we were playing against a Southmead XV, I went around the blindside and their flanker quite deliberately rammed his studs straight through my kneecap - there then followed a huge fight between the two teams with me rolling around in agony on the ground. I've never known pain like it and I was off work for 6 weeks and had to have an operation. That was it for me - I thought why the **** should I play this stupid bloody sport where the main objective is to main your opponent? I've never really got back into it. I'll watch the odd international but it's all pretty meh as far as I'm concerned.
I think its called real support. Not following (or claiming to) some Premiership side who live 200 miles away just because they play pretty football using exotic mercenaries funded by Russian workers' cash. Its about feeling it, hogging the radio when you could be at a pool party (Shiny - respect man)
I'm a bit younger than you cidered! Lower 1974-78 when head was Mr Maltby (Dr Mackay was head of Upper during that time), Upper 1978-85, head was Roy Avery. Still member of the Old Bristolians so I get to see the good old Great Hall from time to time. Summus Bristolienses! By the way cidered, your dates should make you a contemporary of Fred Wedlock? He was there at the same time as you...
Hard to post with any real enthusiasm when it is relegation battle after relegation battle, and more over paid over 33 year old signings who once played in the Prem so our board think they must still be good!! It is only the hardy (sad) few that have stuck with it.
The heart has slowly but unerringly been torn out of the club and the supporters react accordingly. In L2 we will be lucky to be getting 7,000 plenty of friends will not be renewing ST's again. Cost v lack of hope........ Well done Mr Lansdown, a sterling example of how to piss away £50m and still have **** all or less to show for it. We set ourselves very low targets and still fail to reach them
Just realised last time I went to Oldham was when they had that silly astro BOUNCE turf. How long ago was that?
I am just amased that we still get over 11,000 turn up every week. Better clubs in our league get half of that.
Redprintt, we don't see eye to eye on certain players and tactics, but as has been said, city is obviously in you blood and running though your veins. I for one don't want you to stop posting on here. I have been disillusioned with the club ever since GJ left and don't go to many games these days for financial reasons, but I won't stop caring and ALWAYS post my opinions !! We will get through this. It will be tough and there is a real possibility we will go down, but we will be back.
Redprintt is one of our 5 pillars, he belongs here with us, may he agitate some as long as he deems necessary, me, I welcome him.
Sorry, I have to hold up my hands as one who hasn't posted for a while. Not that I haven't been closely following matches/results/news and popping here to catch up every so often too. But City has taken a back seat to real life for me for the past couple of months, with about 65" (sixty five!) of snow so far this winter season (as opposed to 65" of rain that you've had back home), plus continued job hunting, and a serious medical situation in my wifes family this past month. I'll make more effort to post again. Having given my excuses, yes, it's hard to feel terribly motivated when the malaise at City is still so bad. Whilst I was against SC coming in, he at least shows some human emotions, and I think we've picked up a few points that we wouldn't have under SOD. But its always one step forward, one step back, and he's so far not turned things around anything like enough. With our games in hand gone, draws just aren't enough (especially with other relegation rivals getting the odd win), and I am now fearing the drop into L2 is a strong possibility. But I've followed City since the 60's, and well remember the last great drop and going to old Division 4 matches at the Gate, so if the worst happens, it happens. Like a few others have said, it's in your blood, and I'll follow City till I die.
Its up to all of us to make postings, and make 606 a place to keep coming back too over OTHER forums. All I would like to state is that can postings be more flexible. It might not be about Bristol City or even football in general, but if its a news item about Bristol. Now lets get them postings up and we can all respond and post comments.
NTTDS This is a good forum with a good bunch bouncing of each other,no pathetic slagging of each others views unlike otib. The mods are a good bunch and are not stuck up there backsides. The more quality posters that come over the better. I think most, if not all on here are long and hardened city fans hence the talk is about the club we all love
