WES BROWN will serve a two-game ban after the Sunderland centre-half was sent off against Hull City today. Brown earned the third fastest red card in Premier League history after he was dismissed in the fourth minute of this afternoonâs encounter against the Tigers. The 34-year-old will earn a one-match ban for a professional foul and an extra game after he was sent off earlier in the season against Norwich City. Brownâs dismissal at Stoke will not count towards his suspension after it was rescinded. The ban will rule Brown out of Wednesdayâs trip to Manchester City along with next Saturdayâs visit of Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round.
Wes Brown's red card against Hull won't cost him his chance to play at Wembley. Following his brain-fart of a decision that saw him receive his marching orders just four minutes into the game, there was plenty of confusion about what the length of the defender's ban would actually be. Many were especially concerned that it would be a four-game ban, which would see him unavailable for the Capital One Cup final next month. However, Brown will serve just a two-game suspension, with those two games being the league clash with Manchester City and the FA Cup fifth round game against Southampton. Much of the confusion stemmed from a false perception of the disciplinary rules, with plenty of people believing that a straight red card is punishable by an automatic three-game ban. That isn't the case though. Only violent conduct offences carry such a penalty, not all straight red cards. Brown's offence was 'denying a goalscoring opportunity'; the old 'professional foul' malarkey. As such, he will serve one game for that, and an additional game for it being his second red card of the season. So 'PHEW!!', basically. Moment of madness or not, he's still our best defender.
Thank god for that, would of been terrible on the lad after all he has done for us this season. On the other hand this gives Vergini 2 games to say to Gus, "I should play in the final", this brings the sort of competition we need.
Did he serve a ban for the first red? If so, banning him again is punishing him twice for the same offence isn`t it? or is that an automatic rule thing?
Watched it on MOTD last night, thought there were 3 issues. No doubt about the card though Bardsley's pass - could he have made a worse one? Brown's mad tackle - far better to concede a goal and keep 11 players so early in the game - what was he thinking?? O'Shea's complete lack of agility and pace to get back and help, he actually gave up before Brown made the tackle
Brown's an absolute disgrace. A desperate thug, who thankfully won't get the chance to incapacitate another Saint this season. Total ****.
No bother ............... we have plenty of other players who can put a few more of your's in hospital BTW, what's your excuse for not coming this time armchair boy
Well, a question of expenses. You or Hull, I chose Hull a much nicer place and real fans. It's still a ****hole but much er nicer than Sunderland. Thanks for asking. A bientot.
He's one of the biggest liars on the boards mate. That's bad enough but he has this weird idea that he's a real warrior and goes around winding everyone up and causing chaos everywhere he goes In truth he's a pathetic little dreamer who you totally forget until he posts. The standard of wums on here has reached an all time low tbh .......... there used to be some clever, witty lads on here but thick posters like 'sa1nts' are just tedious & boring. Does he really believe that saying Hull is 'a much nicer place' than Sunderland would bother anyone, as you say he wasn't there last night or he'd never say anything so stupid
Why is this only 2 games? He's been sent off like 3 times already this season. Should be a 5 game ban surely after 3 reds. Rescinded or not.
If Adam Johnson goes through on goal tonight in an identical scenario to the weekend (replace Brown with Kompany and Long with Johnson) - I bet Kompany get's a yellow and it'll be "common sense" for it happening so early in the game. Actually, we probably won;t even get a free kick
He won the ball you bell end! Although, after watching 2 two footed tackles (one where your player injured himself) I guess you think that winning the ball deserves a red card So, you're saying that a rescinded red card should equal a ban even though it's rescinded - you're not too bright are you!! 1 match for a professional foul and 1 extra match as it's his SECOND legitimate red of the season
Something needs to done about the standard of the wums on this board. I long for the good old days on BBC606 when some of them were clever and managed to land the odd blow. The current crop seem to believe that posting endless & pointless drivel amounts to banter and that they're actually winding people up. The saints w**ker thinks that saying Hull is nice and Hull people are better will upset people. Very poor but I suspect this is as good as it gets for them
if we let them win on saturday they may leave us alone, as for hull they are just a lost souls that nobody likes.
You're a dozy **** who knows **** all about our team or the sport. Let's break it down for you. One red was rescinded, His last sending off equates to a one match ban, plus an extra game for his previous sending off. I have heard the rules to tiddlywinks is pretty straight forward, perhaps you should stick to that?
