Coutinho's performance today was magnificent. Rodgers assigned him significant defensive tasks and he was up to them all. With more performances like this he is comparable to a modric. Ozil, silky as they come going forward, cannot be tasked with intensive defensive responsibilities - unfortunately for arsenal others weren't up for them either today.

Problem with Ozil is he is an ex-Madrid player. Therefore, pressing when off the ball is a foreign never heard of concept to him. Extremely lazy player, also very mentally weak. Disappears when the going gets tough. Age is also on Coutinho's side, only 21. Ozil is already at his peak.

They only managed a measly 15 tackles on us. We were on fire, running them rugged, couldn't touch us.

Well prior to this season I would have said Coutinho was nowhere near him but I've not been particularly impressed with Ozil I don't think he's been one of the stand out players for Arsenal this year. On current form no contest. Coutinho, was Ozil even playing today? hardly noticed

Thought Oxlade-Chamberlain was Arsenals best player today. Not saying much I know but he did cause a few problems

Wilshire was playing dirty and verbally abusive to everyone.

The moment anyone gave a little contact back he dropped like a wounded lemur.

He's a good player but a poor sport and a poor human being.

  8. Ozil already is world class. He was superb for Real hence a lot of people questioning why they sold him (at half the price) so they could get Bale! Ozil's currently adapting to a new league, we'll see the best of him next season.

  10. Not all players do. In fact, some players are a lot worse once settled; aka Jelavic

Let's not get carried away. Coutinho is faster and is definitely a bargain and a great little player to have but Ozil is definitely better.

Thing with Arsenal is, they aren't setup for Ozil's strengths, the stunning through ball which him and Ronaldo did brilliantly. He needs walcott to be making those runs so his vision and passing can come into play. You have an oaf of giroud up front, chamberlain whos quite static, Cazorla who isnt the quickest and the overrated ballhog Wilshire.

Coutinho on the other hand has Sterling Sturridge and Suarez making runs, offering and going behind all the time with great pace.

P.S that ball for sturridge was amazing

Easy answer Ozil, the man has proven much more in his career so far than Coutihno at club and international level.

Love the wee man Coutinho, but Ozil is overall better right now. ****, Coutinho, atm, isn't even the best 10 in the league, that probably goes to Silva or Oscar ( could say Hazard but he plays a bit wider and then roams).

Coutinho needs to add the goals eventually too for me but loving how his range of passing is improving now.

His comeback was massive! Contributing 2 goals against Crystal Palace but the way they've played yesterday was.. just... NVM!

Ozil started off really well and looked worth every penny of his £40 million. But lately he seems to disappear from games and doesn't look to have too much heart for a fight. At RM he was surrounded by some of the best talent around. Arsenal are a good team but are no Madrid.

Courthino's form has been patchy this season but in recent games looks to be at his brilliant best. But he has a lot to prove yet.

For me courthino, if he shows this fight and spirit for the rest of the season, is a very very exciting prospect. Ozil is a classy player who hasn't shown too much heart or desire in recent games.

If I had to choose one, on current form, then courthino .

If I remember rightly the OP wanted to know which player we would prefer to have. My preference was for Coutinho due to the level that he is playing at and his age.

That does not mean that I don't rate Ozil. He is a very good player. He appears to be having some difficulty adapting to Arsenal's style of play and maybe hie new team mates.

the position that coutinho has taken up.. not at no 10 and not as left wing has been impressive. He's in effect in midfield.

I was wondering how he'd do there and frankly the passes he delivered yesterday and work he got through too... its impressive for a young man. very impressive indeed.

Right now, Ozil.. yeah he's had a dip in form, but when the likes of Him, Mata, Oscar and Silva are at their best, he still, for me, stands out as the best number 10 in the league.
Our lad, Ford, he's progressing nicely, no pressure on the lad, let him continue to develop, in a few years time, he maybe in the equation as one of the better number 10s in the league..
