True irony here.... our record signing and spent most of his time on the treatment table... unless there was an England game.
This horrible little so and so is the reason I'll take our prudent approach to transfers now (although not the very recent cock ups) over the 'splash the cash' approach of FFS.

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-articles/michael-owen-attacks-newcastle-fans-yet/?

ichael Owen attacks Newcastle fans yet again today and his ignorance is breathtaking.

The only other alternative is that he is cynically misrepresenting the truth as his greed as always knows no bounds.

Clearly Owen is no longer on speaking terms with Alan Shearer, as a quick call to his ex-Newcastle and England team-mate would have put him right, with the Geordie legend having been active this week in commenting knowledgeably about United’s problems.

Instead this Michael Owen rubbish below, has appeared this morning, with Owen pushing the line of what have Newcastle fans got to complain about and it is the supporters who create most of the problems and instability at St.James’ Park with expectations of challenging for the title when we win a few matches.

You can read the full piece at the Telegraph but here are some of the edited ‘highlights’, make your own mind up…

michael owen attacks newcastle fansIf you were writing a ‘How To’ guide for running the ideal football club without having the mega-millions of Manchester City or Chelsea, there would be certain assets you might emphasise.

You’d want expertise in the scouting department, finding players at bargain who would then go for a premium, if sold. You would like a manager capable of getting you into Europe and who knew how to get the best from all his squad, you would like a commercial team that made brave and visionary ideas to raise cash to compete with the financial superpowers – and most importantly, a passionate fan base, who no matter how difficult the situation, always stood by the team and packed the stadium every week.

Surprising as it might seem to many, you would look at Newcastle United and think ‘that place has so much going for it.’

For any outsider looking at St.James’ Park it’s difficult to understand why there’s a feeling it;s gone wrong. I must admit there are occasions I have witnessed scenes of angst and thought ‘Are things really so bad there?’.

Newcastle deal only in the extremities of football.

They are either aiming for cloud nine or landing in a pit of despair. There’s no in between. When the team’s winning the idealists take over and the talk swiftly turns to recreating the era of Kevin Keegan, challenging for the title and establishing the club alongside those of Manchester, or at the vest least, Merseyside.

A few poor results later we are rapidly in the realms of anti-ownership protests.

The current owner, Mike Ashley, has never been able to win over the supporters but to say the club is in disarray seems patently untrue.

I think the key difference between being a player at Newcastle compared to Manchester United or Liverpool is an atmosphere around the north east club ensuring it excels at turning what could be a minor setback into a potential calamity.

At Newcastle the capacity for instability is ceaseless. Where some clubs see molehills, in Newcastle they rapidly become a mountain range.

The biggest issue for Newcastle is working out exactly where, realistically, they expect to be as a club. If we are completely honest when assessing the current balance of power in the Premier League, they’re simply punching at their correct weight.

I remember him getting irate at the audacity of some fans to question if he was worth his £100,000 pw wages whilst he was warming the treatment table... utter arrogance.

as for Michael owen. I think he lives in a fantasy world where he believes his own ****. Not just about us but about his whole career. Must be easier than looking back and realising he didn't make the most of so much potential. He was a wonderkid who never grew up.

Must admit, I don't think he's far wrong to be honest. Without a sugar daddy we'll probably not break top 6. I reckon we're 8th best team in league, we should be aspiring to pass Everton to become 7th best and then perhaps push on from there. Pushing on from there becomes so difficult when the teams above you can just spend countless millions on players.

In short, we're not the worst team in the league.... last season was a poor showing.
And we're not the best ......5th was a cracking result.
It may not be sexy but that's where we are. Some games we'll surprisingly win then other teams we'll play badly and lose, that's football.

I would like to add though, win lose or draw I just want the players to care and play some decent football.

Finally, I'm not an Owen fan boy, it annoyed me as much as anyone that he would claim injury for us but then magically be fine for England

There are some bits of what he says that make sense. I don't want to hear them from Michael Owen though when he was such a tit when he was here - he really can't see the bits that upset us even to this day.

Interesting that the majority of your posts have been questions.
Maybe you want to offer up your own opinion fella?
There was a chap one who was called Atticus who held a similar manner of converse.

I remember him getting owned on twitter when he challenged somebody about what they have done in their live compared to his heroics in his early days.
It turn out the lad in question was in the army fighting on the front line.
    Priceless
